As fun as the Apple Cup was, he was smart enough to look into the transfer portal for a web of equal capability as JDL.

Some have suggested this is finances related and being done for his family. Understood. While planting our flag on UW’s logo and saying it is ours he must have simply been caught up in the moment knowing it was unlikely he was going to return because of finances.

If ward chooses another school I do hope Dickert and Morris have a plan B.

The family thing is BS, dad needs to step up. Looking at your kid as the meal ticket isn’t being a real parent. iMO

Agreed -if you're a grown man and you're hoping your kid makes enough money as a QB in sophomore in college to support a family...that's just irresponsible.

Edit: Or wildly naive.

I think the finance angle is BS, how much could he possibly pull in? a mediocre QB with upside isn't going to make a huge haul IMO

If his offer from WSU was/is $0 and he has competing offers from other schools at 5 figures, which is better?

There is a lot of talk about schools offering NIL deals. My understanding from an attorney I spoke with, who works for WSU to help athletes navigate the NIL waters, is that schools cannot offer anything. That is up to private business. The only thing a school can do is help by providing advice and education so that students are equipped to look out for their best interests. The school cannot even help athletes negotiate contracts with businesses on the students behalf.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that a lot of schools aren’t skirting the rules. We all know that’s been happening for years. But assuming I remember my conversation with the gentleman correctly, there isn’t a chance in hell that WSU is offering any recruit anything.

And I’d guess that even the BS happening at A&M isn’t the result of the school making the offer. At least not publicly. More likely it’s behind closed doors with fat cat donors and alumni in this manner.

The whole thing is a shit show. P5 college football is dead.

When I write offer from WSU, I do not mean the school itself. I mean boosters. If I have to be more clear I will.

Texas A&M has a machine down there. TexAgs is a big deal. They are so far ahead it is laughable. It isnt behind closed doors. The popular A&M message board actually has doors… to their own facility, full staff, tv set, subscription service…. again, laughable.

I used to write that Arizona is the worst program in the Pac 12. No more. They added 12 recruits in the CA top 72. Why top 72? Cause they didn’t get anyone from 73-100.

Why is this news? Cause a 1 win team rode into California and landed 12 of top 72 and USC got 4. All the history, all the titles, all the Rose Bowls, all the $$$, all the NFL players, Tucson vs LA, movie stars at practice, huge network of alums… 4. Could you make an argument that they didn’t hire a coach? Sure. Could you make an argument that Arizona has its shit together and blew kids away even with their 1 win season? Yes.

I caught hell here when I wrote about BYU having full ride NIL deals a while back. Well, here we are.

thanks for this explanation. it's all so new for an old fart like me.
I can see why De Laura would have a hard time getting any NIL money in Pullman. His arrest last spring (was it dui or mip?). No business would want to touch that, and I don't blame them. I guess those are good old fashioned "consequences for your actions".
