There was a post on brandx last week about a "Big 12 guard" visiting. We lacked backcourt quickness last year. Yesufu looks the part. Hopefully he does returns to past form.
Yesufu averaged about 13 ppg and about 39% from 3 point range, during his SOPHMORE year at Drake.
At BLUE BLOOD KANSAS a team that has been making final fours like crazy, that has a WHOLE TEAM OF 5 STARS, and about 1,2,3 NBA PROS per season, and about 3 to 6 to 9 TOTAL NBA PROS, 1,2,3 per freshman to senior classes.
On such a team, even a 12 minute per game player is probably going to average about 23 to 30 to 37 minutes per game, and at least 10 ppg at any team not named Kansas, Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, Gonzaga, Arizona, UCLA, etc.
Because he was injured, and because he had all the 5 stars, Pros, starting ahead of him, he didn't get minutes, and because of those lack of minutes, he probably got into a Noah Williams like Shooting funk, slump, after his AWESOME shooting at Drake, and did not get the minutes he needed to play his way out of the funk, slump, because of all the 5 stars, Pros in front of him.
And that's just the shooting part
Yesufu has extreme NBA ATHLETICISM. He is QUICK, SPEEDY, FAST, CAN JUMP OUT OF GYM, even at 6-0 height. He is like UCLA'S JRUE Holiday, that was 6-0, that scored 9 ppg as a freshman, and after his freshman year, went 9th to 13th in the NBA LOTTERY.
Yesufu also has extreme lateral quickness, shiftiness, and has the ability to juke, break ankles, beat defenders off of dribble, blow by defenders, drive, slash, penetrate, get to the rim, create own shot, finish that shot, finish at rim, with both of either lay ups or dunks, and can pass, dish out assist, create opportunities for other players.
The only reason he either didn't showcase that, or didn't get to showcase that, was all the 5 stars, Pros in front of him, and because of his injury, shooting slump, etc.
Also at Kansas, he was OFTEN playing against the best of the best at, on the other Dukes, North Carolina's, etc.
He didn't often get to shine vs the WSU, Ore St, Cal, ASU, Washington, etc, non blue blood types.
At WSU Yesufu probably should probably get about 10 ppg, and 3 rebounds per game, and about 3.5 to 5 to 7 assist per game, GOOD DEFENSE, 1,2,3 steals per game, 1 take a charge per game. About 33% to 35% to 37% from 3, and frequently drive, create own shot, and either finish or dish, about 75+% from freethrow line, about 22 to 27 to 32 minutes per game.
And after that assuming he stays for his COVID Year, he probably will get about 14 to 16 ppg, and 4 rebounds per game, and about 5 to 7 to 9 assist per game, and about 37% to 40% to 43% from 3, and about 87% from freethrow line, and about 28 to 32 to 36 minutes per game.
Also his HIGHLIGHT REEL VIDEOS of his play at Kansas, against QUALITY competition, look pretty good.
You can't or shouldn't just only look at his 12 minutes per game at Kansas, and say, that doesn't look good, because that doesn't tell the whole story.
Also I trust Smith's judgement on Yesufu.
WSU getting Yesufu from Kansas, is probably and probably should be a pretty good get.
I'm glad that WSU got Yesufu, as Yesufu is probably at least as good or better then Rice, Darling, and at least equal to an or maybe, might semi probably slightly better then Powell, etc, at semi worst.
WSU needed a PG like Yesufu, and got one.
