We've seen a lot of talk about Leach, but I was curious about what others think about Grinch. He left WSU for Ohio State in 2018 and the Buckeyes gave up 357 that year, which looks like their worst performance in 40+ years that I checked. He jumped to Oklahoma in 2019 and they improved from their terrible 2018 season but still gave up almost 28 points per game. The OU defense has been inept the last two games and the Sooners have lost two in a row for the first time in a generation. Was Grinch over-rated or is it just that he hasn't really had an opportunity to prove himself?

Well, he wasn’t in control of the defense at Ohio State, but at Oklahoma he certainly is. Grated, OU’s defense had been awful before Grinch was hired, but he certainly hasn’t moved the needle.

Overrated. That's all I have to say about that.

Grinch is a fine coach but he always struggled with organization early in the season. Our defensive communication sucked in both FCS losses. He'll figure it out because if he doesn't he'll be looking for work.

Agree with Krusty. He might be a bit like Leach insofar as his talents are best employed at a have-not seeking to gain some semblance of a defense despite an inability to recruit paradigmatic talent. I thought, and still think, his approach should work better at Oklahoma than it would at Ohio State, given the conferences those schools play in and the different standards/needs they have, but he hasn't really come through thus far.

I saw the last quarter of the Iowas State game- many camera shots of a very angry Grinch. Giving up 36 and 37 points against two unranked teams and getting two L's won't soon be forgotten. I could see a mid-season dismissal.

OU's defensive problems were mostly poor fundamentals and a few blown assignments. The tackling was atrocious. Over-pursuit leading to poor angles. The usual early season Grinch. His teams tend to improve all the way through the 4th game. But, as etown said, he'll figure it out or be looking for a job.
