GU/WSU

Rich, I posted much the same thing in the other thread without seeing yours first. But I got the same, warm glow in my heart with the way things have played out.

Hmmmm....
I guess their little church league wasn't actually that tough.
Trailed most of the game against Memphis in the round of 32.
Out against Arkansas in the round of 16.
Maybe schedule another P5 school, 70 miles away?
It would mean dropping Alcorn State, or Dixie State, or Bellarmine (?), or Central Michigan or Tarleton State (??) from their crazy hard non-conference schedule.
I wish I had a bag to puke in every time I heard announcers proclaim how Gonzaga plays such a tough schedule...

Whatever will the Spokane media talk about now?
They've basically ignored WSU as of late.

Despite the fact that one has nothing to do with the other I cannot express how satisfying it is to me that WSU is still playing and Gonzaga is not.
I think a whole lot of us were thinking the same thing. Only bummer for me is Virginia not winning, thought would be fun to see them in the final and beat ol Tony.

Just to pile on a little, the way Arkansas played tonight doesn't help the Gonzaga myth. Arkansas is nothing more then a solid P5 team, finishing 4th in the SEC, one place above Texas AM. Like Memphis, who are very good, but not great, not magic...

Duke beat Gonzaga already this season, and I think they would have bounced them again tonight. With what we know now, the idea that Gonzaga was #1 the entire season and the overwhelming favorite to win the tournament shows how overrated they were. They barely survived round of #32, lost in round of #16, and would have been whipped in the round #8. They have totally figured out how to work the rankings to their advantage. Luckily there is an actual tournament to continually expose them.

To get to the Final Four, you have to have a tough physical point guard who can consistently break down his defender off the dribble and create his own shot...or dish off a pass to an open teammate when he dribble penetrates...or nail the three ball. All three are critical for a FF point guard.

I don't recall a team getting to the FF who hasn't had that point guard. That is why I wasn't sold on Zona. They had Kerr Kriesa, but that supports my point. He couldn't do that. Zags have some excellent guard play, but they didn't seem to have the physicality needed.
