Last night on KXLY sports Smith said the NBA has all the info they need on Gueye. Gueye will make the best decision for himself based on NBA feedback. I assume if he gets a deal like Elleby got or is a first rounder he's gone. If it doesn't work out Smith expects Gueye will be back at WSU.

Elleby's a good comparison. I was a bit surprised he opt to go but then figured someone would like him enough to give him a guarantee. He got a couple years on an NBA roster, made over $2M, and is now in the G-League. Definitely a good decision regardless of whether he ends up having a long NBA career. Would love to see Gueye return but probably the same thing happens with Gueye. Someone will like him enough and believe in his upside to give him a guarantee.

No question. I meant in terms of mock drafts not including Gueye as at least a second rounder similar to Elleby. If that’s how the NBA really sees it at this point, once he goes through the process again someone (or more) will change their tune.

I thought it was a mistake for Elleby because I didn’t think he would be drafted. I was wrong and he already knew he was going to be drafted based on conversations with Portland. All the mock drafts are great but when the rubber hits the road the aren’t anything but certain peoples opinions. They might be well informed opinions but opinions just the same.

There's not much incentive for teams to provide much of any information for what they really think on players. There's no hiding someone like Victor Wembanyama. For second rounder type players teams probably keep things close to the vest.
