I just lost at least 10 years of my ever-dwindling lifespan by watching the Cougs eke out a 69-66 win over California. Given, they had no business being in this game in the first place, but having a 6-7 point lead in the final two minutes and damn near blowing it was mind-bogglingly frustrating. Up five with less than 20 seconds left, than having Iregbou fail to inbound after a made bucket, giving up two technical foul shots----excruciating. But, given all that, Hawkinson continued to perform at an all-league level, and Railey is actually evolving into a serviceable big man. If Lacey can keep himself on the floor and start hitting shots anywhere near the rate we are accustomed to, this is a decent team and Ernie Kent is earning my begrudging respect as a more than decent coach. Whodda thunk it?

I agree bogus to, exactly right. I stated that this team would not win 4 PAC-12 games. I'm happy to say that I hope I'm wrong!

The key, as with Bennett Ball, is to play D. I think today was the best D effort I've seen in a couple of YEARS. Part of why it was good was because we played good D for the entire game. A lapse here and there, but overall, solid D from beginning to end.

Add in Railey's growth in confidence and we are a credible road team. Wow. "Whodda thunk it?" is right on target.

Now if we can continue to work in this direction and Iroegbu can survive his baptism by fire, we could be a pretty good team by the end of the season.

Double bonehead by Iroegbu

Ike shouldn't have been inbounding the ball in the first place. He is one of the guys you want catching the inbound pass because he is one of the better FT shooters. Then he follows that up with a timeout they didn't have. You would think they would know what to do in those situations, but they looked totally confused. Aside from that, a pretty solid game. Ernie has got them playing Bennett ball, and doing it as well as the Bennett's.

Re: Double bonehead by Ireogbu

As well as the Bennett's? I wouldn't go that far. But yes, the defense was the best it's been this season, bar none. TB, by the way, is now coaching the number 3 team in the country and is still unbeaten.

Agree across the board. Iroegbu shouldn't have taken it out and then the panic button went off and he stopped thinking. I am glad it didn't turn into OT or a loss. They needed this win badly. Good game by Railey and Hawkinson found his shooting touch again. He's just fun to watch. Lacy will come out of it and Iroegbu started to get some to drop.

Railey is a different player that last few games. They actually need him on the court.

Very nice win, and completely unexpected.

Ike should not be the point guard either because he keeps picking up his dribble.

It was a great win and entirely expected. The so called fans had written off Kent before he had coached a game. I told people that he is a very good coach who knew what he was doing. Kent has had to undo all the non and bad coaching over the last few years.Fans here acted like the cougs did not have a basketball program. He had to build up the players and teams confidence. They also had to learn a new system and learn to play the game correctly. He has had to coach this team up. He also had to play players at the positions they are best at. It is time for many posters here to eat a little crow and wonder why they judged Kent so harshly. It is a satisfying win in many respects. i still expect the cougs to lose games but this win shows that Kent knows waht he is doing . The future looks bright for coug basketball. It is nice to see things work out as expected and the cougs will be a much better team next year. They finally have a coach who has been through the wars and who knows how to coach basketball.

Congrats to coach Kent and all the players!!!! Great job and hope this success keeps building!!

Not sure why your posts have to be so vile. It takes away from your credibility when you do post worth while opinions or information.

Just remember that you wrote off Hawkinson.

I think Bone should have developed him more last season.

God knows we needed another big to help out.

Hawkinson has been an incredible surprise.

Props to Kent and Hawk for gettin' it done.
