I gotta say, that was a joyful game for me, despite our crummy shooting and the loss that resulted.

We played real basketball!! We killed them on turnovers. I quit counting after we drew our 5th charging foul. Yes, we got out-muscled for rebounds, but SC might end up being the league team that looks the most like football players; they are not just tall, they are big, so the rebounds were not a surprise. Of bigger concern was our inability to penetrate. A big part of that was our inability to hit an outside shot; SC eventually started sagging and giving us more open looks. That wasn't a bad strategy, since we could not hit anything. We took a lot more shots than they did, and if we had hit anything we would have won the game.

All this from a team that is about half new Cougars, playing under a new system and still learning about each other. It is good to be optimistic about our basketball program after so many years in the desert. And edit after reading Metprof's post...yes, Tony Miller was impressive. When the announcers said he was only 6' 5 1/2", I did a double take. He plays like a bigger guy.

They hustled and scrapped all game long. Tony Miller is a keeper!

Wish the crowd was bigger but it snowed and rained most of the way down to the game so I didn't really expect more. These kids deserve our support!

Ernie's teams might have lost last night by 25.

I've been to 2 games this season so far. It's obvious they are learning a new system. But I like it. There have been a few "WTF" moments but otherwise, solid basketball. I'm excited by the future.

EDIT: wasn't at the USC game but will be there this weekend. Conference play will reveal a lot.
