Huck the fuskies

18 points in the paint and 10 assists in the first half. Smith must have been reading the message boards for advice on fixing the O.

GD! Don’t run the offense bad off balance 3 then otb foul. Brain farts galore.

All 3 WSU bigs playing well with lots of points in the paint and a nice rebounding advantage. This is how envisioned them playing before the season started.

It helps immensely to have DJ back. Takes fouls, wears out post players so the the two finesse bigs have room on the elbow. Game changer having him in the mix.

What is wrong with Williams lately. His game is off. his press clippings from last year. Forgot to practice free throws and 15 foot jumpers.
He spent the off season reading his press clipping and dreaming of the NBA. Noah appears to have forgot to practice his free throw shooting, dribbling, three point shooting etc. In all seriousness, this is a classic case of someone losing complete confidence in their game. He had some great games last year and it went to his head, he thought he was going to be the man this year. When that didn't happen his game regressed and he appears lost. Zero Confidence.

Noah. Is. A. Liability. Can’t shoot. Can’t defend. Can’t create. Maddening.
Can’t defend? As a defender he just held the conferences leading scorer at over 21 ppg to his lowest scoring output of the year with 11…
I get the guy is struggling offensively and his decision making isn’t always the best, but geeez…
You have no clue if you think he doesn’t play defense.

That was one of the silver linings coming out of the loss to USC....Dishon coming back and having an impact. As you note, he takes a lot of the pressure off Gueye and Abogidi while providing them some breathers throughout the game.

Gueye took 23 shots last night to score his 25.....but I have no problem with that. Nearly all were high percentage shots that a player has to take. The Husky zone left that high post shot just inside the key available all night long and he took advantage. Efe was a beast....probably his best game as a Cougar.

Glad Cougar

Key to victory last night? Big guys take 36 shots (made 21 of them) while the guards take only 23 shots (made 6 of them). Husky defense allowed the Cougar front court to get high percentage shots and we took advantage. This is what can happen if the Cougs don't simply focus on the 3-point shot.

I saw DJ messing with his goggles and going out shortly afterwards. Not sure he ever returned. Hope he didn't get reinjured.

The guards need to spend the next two days working on getting the ball into the low post. There were more points to be had there if they do a better job of passing down low. Did a pretty good job of working it into the elbows, to the high post, seems like UW left that wide open all game long on their 2-3 zone. You'd have to think they will tighten up that area of the zone for the next game. Good win, worked the ball into the paint. still too much dribbling, you beat a zone with quick passes.

Agree, Williams offense might be off, but his defense is great. Generally is assigned to guard the leading scorer of the other team, ( provided it's a guard or small forward) and almost always that person is held below their season average.

I said this after the USC loss in Pullman in December.

Coach Kyle Smith can just call me when he needs the fix instead of messing around for 2 1/2 months.

Playing inside out is part of how this team can actually become almost average on the offensive end.

Best offensive game in a long time. They finally got away shooting the 3. 4/17, still a few low percentage again, but it's better than going 6-33 that they usually do. The worked the ball to the post where we clearly had the advantage. I'd assume that Hopkins will adjust to not get up 54 points to our post players, but he's sorta like Leach with his zone. Refuses to really change. I really hope this is the offense going forward, I rather lose trying to get Dishon, Efe and Mo going than having Flowers and Roberts going 6-24 from 3.

The Husky zone has a clear hole just inside the free throw line. Getting the ball to Gueye there worked great and also allowed Efe to hang around the rim and collect offensive put backs. I don't think this works against anybody playing man to man. The Zags can go high low effectively against man to man because both Timme and Holmgren can both take it to the basket in man to man sets. Efe and Gueye can't.

Ever consider the future if Chun's new boss (Sgt Schulz's replacement) starts reading CougEd's posts?

In exchange, Smith will help turn tLCHS into Nathan Hale

I totally agree. The issue is that the Huskies have the worst interior defense in the conference. They are the only team with only 1 mobile big man. I think that had as much to do with it as anything else. I want to see them do that against other teams
