The date for the 2020 season opener at Utah State has changed. It was originally scheduled for Sat., Sept. 5 but has been moved to Thur., Sept. 3 and will presumably be nationally televised on one of the ESPN or Fox platforms.

We learned of the date change yesterday when the Mountain West released its full 2020 schedule. Soon thereafter, WSU confirmed the date change. So, if you've already made travel plans to go to Logan, you'll need to change them.

Only if there was skiing in September.

Also, can't believe Houston is coming to Martin the following weekend. When was the last time we had a non-cupcake out of conference team to visit Pullman?

Granted, Houston is Houston....but still....no cupcake.

Anyone?

Bummer. I hate opening on the road mid week against a dangerous opponent. If we stumble early, Utah St. should be able to pull this one out. We'll need to bring our A game.

I am fine with moving the Utah State game up a couple of days. Two days less until football season starts and gives the staff a couple of extra days to clean up the deficiencies before facing the next opponent, Houston. National exposure on ESPN or whoever is showing the game. Were many of us planning to travel? We sit in our comfy chairs and watch the game on TV on Thursday instead of Saturday. Frankly, I like it.

And they can go recruiting Friday night.

I like it. I may actually go to this game now. I can make it back by Friday for that last weekend at the lake.

I feel differently. Having a game like this is much more incentivizing for the team as they grind through Spring and Fall camp. Road opener, National TV.

Utah State will be breaking in a new QB to replace one of their best of all time, Jordan Love. They also lose their elite running back Gerold Bright. If Cammon Cooper wins our starting job, it’ll be a homecoming for him. A lot of good subplots here.

Playing Utah State and then getting a few extra days to prepare for the home opener vs. Houston seems like a good way to get into the season.

It’s better to play these early season, midweek games on the road. Fans are still in summer mode, and the students aren’t typically into them early. They might not even be back at school yet.
