I just caught a blurb on ESPN that stated that Idaho and New Mexico State would no longer be able to continue as football-only members of the Sun Belt Conference after the coming schedule. Since the Mountain West has previously declined the Vandal's request to join that group, it leaves the guys in Moscow in a real dilemma.
It looks to me that they have two choices, go independent or drop down to FCS status and hopefully join the Big Sky. I don't see going independent as a credible choice. With some FCS games and a gauntlet of mostly body-bag games against FBS schools, they effectively become the Washington Generals of college football. What's the point? Dropping down in class and joining the Big Sky seems the only realistic option to me.
If there is another option that I have missed then please comment.
