$100k would have been worth $34k when I was a freshmen. I would have been torn between a Camaro and a Chevy PU. I’d have a bad ass 31” Curtis Mathis TV and the latest and greatest Atari. Pizza every night!

I’d like to say I would have invested at least half of it but unless my parents made me, it would have been gone in 2-3 years.

When my son went away to college, we put about $25K in CD's and cash in his account and told him he would have to do the rest himself. Via scholarships and working part time, and a couple thousand more to him towards the end (and our used Subaru that we gave him), he came out with his MIS degree and no debt. His buddies had fancier cars and a mountain of debt. Proud of him. I also made him apply to the uw, just to see if he would be accepted (he was, but chose Western). He didn't give a shit about the statement it made, wish I had gotten that letter from him and framed it.
