Last night I was watching the replay of the Stanford WSU game on the Pac 12 network and up pops a covid vaccine commercial in which they had a priest speaking that there is no where in the Bible that says not to take the vaccine. But the Priest did say in the Bible it explicitly says say do things for others. Maybe she is just a commie.

just saw that.

I always listen to organized religious leaders. Especially ones under attack for the tax exempt status.

Let me go into my prayer closet and get the correct guidance.

Wait… you want him to be granted exemption status from an organized religion that is “under attack for the tax exempt status.

Personally doesn’t make much sense to have priest pastors etc opening up the doors of a church if they are so untrustworthy on specific subjects .

The Pac-12 network's ads have always been cringey. In other words, the Pac-12 leading in wokeness is more important than Pac-12 championships.
So being Catholic is being “woke”. Or this priest just had it wrong stating the the Bible to look out for your fellow man. It really is hard to have it both ways.

you miss the point. Keeping the doors open is EXACTLY why pastors would do whatever the state mandates or encourages. The collection plate doesn't fill itself.

Therefore, coercion (either real or implied) by the state and threat of revocation of signficant tax exempt status by the feds....yeah, you don't think churches might be just a little conflicted on the matter?

Follow the money. It's always about the benjamins. Always.

Well, if you're catholic, she's not a priest.

Ummmm, so? But neither does the Bible say "Thou shalt be vaccinated" or "Thou shalt submit to vaccine madates." So what?

But I'll raise your Womyn-priest with a Bishop. Bishop Strickland has said that in good conscience he could not receive a vaccine. So who has more authority and credibility? Some Womyn-priest? Or a Bishop?

Well, if you're catholic, she's not a priest.
Exactly. Though some womyn like to wear collars and pretend they are. And then like to fool people into thinking they are. And then we get posts like the OP.

The Bible says treat your body like a temple.

It actually says to glorify God in your body. But the easy to remember version is to 'treat it like a temple'.

If you want to get really pentacostal - and it follows the It's All About the Benjamins/follow the money line of thinking:

1 Corinthians 6:1

Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never!

Ummm the Pope isn't in our state. The Pope who is the leader of the church says the vaccine is good.

Are you saying only libs are Catholics. You don't think the church like the school will lose "plate donations" from people who share your view on the mandate?

And everyone talks about money, the Bible was written before we started printing US currency. Are you saying the commercial was incorrect what was written in the Bible about taking care of one another, making that sacrifice?

I get it is sort of a conundrum...easier just to say I think what the clergy said was wrong, bad read from the Bible, doesn't apply to modern day life, or you tyhink it is just BS and you like to pick and choose what suits you. All are much more honest than pulling out the "woke" card.

Christ through the Pope said take the vax. Maybe "Christ" gave us the tools to make the vax to treat the people.

Not all that different than the Polio and other mandates you have adhered to. Are you with Jim Jordan and want all vaccine mandates abolished? I would support you in that position...even tho I disagree with his position.

I ain't Catholic. The Pope holds know authority over my spiritual life or free will.

Though I'll capitalize Pope because that is respectful of other's beliefs.

Another example of Bishop Sheen's quote. Christ doesn't speak through the Pope except in cases where he is speaking ex cathedra. He isn't an avatar of Christ.

A woman wearing a collar isn't a priest. The Catholic Church doesn't have women priests. Some protestant denominations have their pastors wear the clerical vestments of a Catholic priest, but they are no more a priest than you. The commercial uses imagery to create a false impression that ignorant people will parrot as fact. It's been successful in your case.

One of the more challenging aspects of this pontificate is the habit of the Holy Father having press conferences on airplanes. Off the cuff statements spliced into sound bites were never meant to be binding on the consciences of the faithful. The pope drinking a Coke and saying "the world would be better if everyone had a delicious Coke." is not a command for every man, woman, and child to drink Coke.

The vaccine is morally acceptable absent no other effective means of treating the disease and should never be forced on a person against their conscience (Church's position on the vaccine) seemed straightforward enough to me. It's wrong to ostracize another person for taking the vaccine. It's also wrong to attempt to coerce someone into taking the vaccine against their conscience.

So how can one apply the religious exemption that has merit if you cant trust the Bible, the leader of a church? Seems better just to say I didn't want to take it, which he did. I have total respect for Kyrie Irving. Wants to lose pay to make a stand. The police officers who stood up for their convictions, good for them. I do find it interesting to get those jobs they did have to get vaccines in the past. Just not this one...but I digress.

Unless it comes to cigarettes, fast food, alcohol, Red Bull’s etc.

All this bible quoting cracks me up.
The bible as we know it today was written by man, not God. Lots was left out and changed.

Several thoughts...if you have had a consistent religious objection to ALL vaccines, then apply for the exemption...but don't try and hide behind the exemption. Our QB coach's brother was let go by the Naval Academy for not getting vaxed as it was against his religious belief. He accepted it and went back home to Hawaii. Not lawsuit, he simply felt so strongly that he was willing to lose his job.

Are you saying the passage she read from the Bible was incorrect? I am only "parroting" what the representative (Nun?) said in the commercial. Is that not a factual passage from the Bible?

Accusing someone of being "woke" is a lazy way to discount a viewpoint you don't agree with, don't you think? That's all I have to say about that.

I thought Confucius said that. But then again...

There are some schools of thought who believe the Creator flung various religious and spiritual leaders to the four corners of the world, hoping perhaps someday we'd all figure it out.

We can't even get it right in a few zipcodes in the upper left hand corner of the country.

Who is the "you" in your statement?

The Church has consistently taught of the primacy of conscience. CCC 1778 states that "man is obliged to follow faithfully what he knows to be just and right." Even the angelic doctor himself states that the conscience--even one in error--binds men (see here).

But this is not arbitrary. There is an obligation to correctly form one's conscience. As CCC 1783 says "Conscience must be informed and moral judgment enlightened. A well-formed conscience is upright and truthful." And one must make sincere attempts. Those who refuse to engage their conscience in the light of reason commit evil. CCC 1791 says when a "man 'takes little trouble to find out what is true and good, or when conscience is by degrees almost blinded through the habit of committing sin.', In such cases, the person is culpable for the evil he commits."

Like anything in the world, there is nuance.

Accusing other's of being MAGA loving Qanon conspiracy theorists because they oppose an over-reaching governmental imposed mandate of a vaccine that doesn't even prevent the spread or contraction of the virus its supposed to protect you against because you don't agree with their viewpoint is far lazier than calling someone woke.... Don't you think? To quote your dumbazz, that's all I have to say about that.

So you are saying the vaccine isn't even 50% effective in stopping the spread? It does nothing to stop the spread? Do you have data points on that?

It's a mistake to view the Catholic church as monolithic and the pope's media statements as the gospel.

The flaw in your analogy is if you get the Polio Vaccine you will not contract Polio. Yet for the Covid 19 "vaccine" there all all these reported "breakthrough cases" where someone received the vaccine yet contracted Covid, some with seriously bad outcomes including fatal ones. I have had the vaccine, but it is not without some risk, perhaps small, but some risk. I chose to get the vaccine anyway. Regardless of what the Pope may say or any designated religious leader, we should all have a choice as to whether we receive it or not, Unlawful termination from employment is still an actionable item. I am assuming Rolo's legal team contends that what happened to him is an unlawful termination. Let's see how it plays out.....I still think in the end Rolo will get a sealed confidential settlement though it may take a while.

I agree there is nuance and also counter passages to what you have cited. And this is a deep rabbit hole I will not go down.

I'm only stating what the Church teaches, hence the quotes from the Catechism. And if Rolo is Catholic and if Rolo is obeying his conscience and if he is not acting contrary to Church teaching, I fail to see how one cannot view his opposition to the mandate as anything but sincere. Just like the thousands in WA and even more nation wide (e.g. NYPD and Chicago PD).

I get you don't like his decision. It also seems clear you don't get it either. But if sincere religious beliefs are to be respected in the US, we should respect his decision.

They won't and cant settle. It sets a precedent. They would be willing to pay more in attorneys fees (and they already have attorneys at their disposal) than what it would cost to pay rolo the remainder of the contract. At this point this is no longer about Rolo. The officer that quit in Cowlitz county, you don't think he would be watching a settlement in this case?

Just out of curiosity, did the Polio vaccine snuff out and stop the transmission 100% of the time in 1955? Do you believe the vaccine today cuts down any part of the transmission of covid, or is it simply to stave off the worse symptoms of covid.

Who are the Pharisees in this situation? The few guys that don't want to be forced to have a shot or Inslee and his gang whipping up a crowd to yell "Vaccinate them! Vaccinate them!"

It seems to me the ones forcing submission are not the Rolo's of the world.

Exactly. My "church" is mountain stream or a lake at sunrise. That's where He talks to me. Not some multi million organization run by man, taught by man.

Still have PTSD from serving as an elder of a church where, invariably, everything always came back to the Benjamins.

Never again.

As I stated before, this is the failure of man, not religion. We are all fallen people and always fall short. And the Church—indeed all organizations—have fallen people in their leadership.

I too was in a position of leadership, being on the pastoral council for a new parish building a new building. There was obvious cases of (in my mind) corruption. For example when reviewing the construction budgets and bids, I noted not a single one we’re from parishioner owned companies. When I asked, “Hey, what about Joe and his drywall company? Maybe he could bid and give us a discount?” the answer I got was “Well, I prefer to deal with contractors I know and trust.” Well guess what, the head of the building committee was a general contractor and he fed out contracts to his buddies.

But why quit? I blamed the sinners involved, not the church or Church.

Sure they can settle. Do you think that wasn't part of the calculus with this mandate?
