Is Jeff Banks even getting a look?

Interestingly enough Chun is given credit for hiring Kiffin In reality Chun hired another guy but was overruled by the administration. They interviewed and hired Kiffin unbeknownst to Chun He was bluntly told to unhire the guy by his bosses. His other guy was fired 3 years later at another University after 10 wins in three seasons. It is a funny but revealing story.I hope that the search committee is keeping close tabs on what Chun is doing.

Think he leaves Bama to coach special teams at WSU?
Yes. A. He was a Coug. B. Pretty confident he has aspirations to be a head coach. He was the assistant HC at A&M and coached them in their bowl game when their HC left a few years ago. C. I think it’s probably a long road through the coaching ranks for him to get to HC of a power 5 as a special teams guy (usually left behind for offensive and defensive minded guys when it comes to HC jobs). WSU would be a huge jump and pay raise for him (think he’s making like 5-600K at Bama. Maybe a little more)

I would interview him if I were Chun. Risky hire probably but Banks is a smart guy, knows FB, and a helluva recruiter. Plus you could initially get him at a good price I would think and give him the resources for a solid coaching staff.

Still bitter about that Ernie Kent firing, eh?

There is no search committee, to my knowledge. There is a search firm hired by Chun to identify and contact potential candidates, but he's essentially going to make a recommendation to President Schultz and that's where the buck will stop.

Glad Cougar

I am not a fan of committees. Be accountable for your great hire or your bad one.

No just keeping an eye out for what Chun is doing and his actual hiring record.. I think you should be more concerned about what is happening now instead of revisiting past history .But i think that it is important to look at past hires. It is easier to fire someone than to hire the right person. Do not shoot the messenger so to speak.Read the funny story it is on the other board. This an important hiring as the fate of WSU s sports programs are at stake.

Opps maybe the first mistake. Well like others i will sit back and watch to see who is hired. I just hope that it is not a Magoo leading the charge.

out of the box, yes, risk, sure, terrible idea, no. Dude has coached 20 years, smart football guy, great recruiter, great west coast connections, Coug, coached under the best in Saban. I’m sure it’s a long shot, but it’s far from a terrible idea. Everyone on the list is gonna have some risks and blind spots. I remember when people were saying take Gesser and make him a QB coach/OC coach in waiting...that’s a terrible idea compared to a guy like Banks. Banks would run circles around Gesser.

You would take a guy with zero OC or DC experience... it is a terrible idea.

No more ideas from you.

Ha. Yup sure would if he’s the right guy. Tell me, what’s so important about being an OC or DC? Head man at a P5 program is basically a CEO. Sell your program/recruit, surround yourself with the right coaches, and have a strategy that you can execute on. I’m not saying Banks is my #1 but he’s done a lot of these things at good programs for a long time. And TAMU tabbed him as their interim HC so I figure he’s got some head coaching chops.

Doubling down on a terrible idea doesnt make it better. It makes it worse.
