Part of me feels a little bad for the MWC left-behinds who now feel exactly like we did a year ago. But that, unfortunately, is what CFB is now.

I think it’s doubtful we’ll get our CFP representative back. I think that the remaining 2 slots are for Cal & Stanford, if they want them, and for UNLV and a player to be named later if they don’t.

Lol at having Boise State in the same sentence as “ four respected academic” universities on their press release.

I’m pretty sure when the dust settles UNLV will be added.

Yes, the remaining MW schools are going to be EMOTIONALLY DEVASTATED. Plus, their future TV deals may even look weaker, financially. It's really bad for them.

At least we left them a weakened but viable league, unlike what happened last year.
If by “viable”you mean minimally functional but with little value, I agree. And once we take UNLV, there’s no value left.

I see some sort of merger of the MWC and AAC in the future

Why would Cal and Stanford want to play with these schools? They didn't want to two years ago. You can argue travel but they are both world-class leading universities. They'll end up in the BIG to form a PAC 8 pod before joining the MWC 2.0.

If that be the case, then do only 6 votes count towards a dissolution of the conference to cancel exit fees? (If that's how all that works)
I'm not going to run down the MWC bylaws, but my recollection is a super majority (my fuzzy recollection is 75 percent) was needed to dissolve.

I couldn’t give your thread a “thumbs up” although I agree with you 💯

Growing markets. New alliance.

I think San Diego, Boise, Las Vegas, Fort Collins are all GROWING or at least "attractive" areas.

WSU already has an awesome following and Oregon State isn't too shabby either.

It's going to be GOLDEN if Cal and Stanford are back in the mix.

I'm not against Utah State and New Mexico either.

I wish it would work for Wyoming and Hawaii, but I get it.

Gotta let the dust settle before evaluating this. If we become the West coast branch of an existing conference, this will be a good move. Either way, it's going to buy us time to rebuild with the best of the rest.
Fair. However, considering the biggest West Coast universities are in better conferences, even with all the travel, they're never returning, barring an ACC collapse and a West/East pod merger. That's the only reason Stanford and Cal would ever return with these teams in the fold.

So the West Coast board is going nuts - thread was up to 27 pages a few minutes ago. UNLV board is in shock as am I.

On both sites there has been mention that the Pac-2 is going to pay the exit fees for the 4 schools. The poaching fee is a given. Wonder where they are getting that info/rumor from?

It's too bad everything is so wrapped up into market value, because the teams we just added all excite me more than Stanford and Cal. Over the past 5 years, how many times would they have beaten Boise State, Fresno, and SDSU?

Agree on the market value point. And as non-conference games, Boise State, Fresno State, and SDSU would be fun teams to play in conjunction with teams like Stanford and Cal and 100+ years of old conference tradition.

I get things change, and this is the reality of this landscape now. I just don't think this conference is going to get viewership numbers or monetary value people are thinking. I can't imagine WSU or OSU got a massive donation today after this news announced. This will just be "some conference."

If we could beg Stanford and Cal back, even as football only members and/or to help us broker a wider reaching merger with the WCC for the Olympic sports, I would think that Apple would be interested to some degree, as would CW. 7:00PM PST viewing windows capture good ratings.

I think Stanford and Cal have a better chance of joining the BIG in a PAC8 division before coming back to this MWC 2.0. Cal maaaybeee would return to help cut travel, but Stanford would rather go independent.
