Officially, Manning was recruiting LA City. Downey HS is a long way from LA City…just a short distance across the county line from La Habra (the OC town in the far NW corner of OC), in that vast swath of suburbia ranging from the edges of metro LA all the way east through Orange County to the East/South East, and greater Long Beach to the South. I was actually concerned based on the published recruiting territories that we might drop the ball in north Orange County and the parts of SE LA county that wrap around the north and west boundaries of the OC (More or less Hacienda Heights, Rowland Heights, Diamond Bar, Pomona, Whittier, Downey, Santa Fe Springs, La Mirada). That north OC and SE LAC region is probably something close to 2 million people, depending upon where you draw the lines, and it is 95% suburban high schools. But seeing that they were willing to focus Manning on a good prospect outside his stated territory is good news. Somebody is making good decisions.
