Blast from the past. JM had a decent Sr. year at WSU, he was always battling through injuries. I always liked James, great guy and played hard. He joined Tedfords staff as RB coach for Frezneck state. Good to see him climbing the ladder after paying his dues as Weber St and Sac State (Yay Paul Wolff and Jody Sears) and most recently at Cal Poly. Go get em James!

I smoked a J with Montgomery up in a CCN parking lot. Good times.
Whadya minute.....

Didn't Jim Walden say CPW deserved a 5th year and a contract extension because CPW had to clean up a drug riddled mess?

I also knew plenty of dudes on roxys, OxyContin, and hydros. One guy on the team had his dad send them up from pain clinics and sold them. The team really was a drug riddled mess on top of having no talent.

One of my most interesting moments on Brand X was when I got a PM from James Montgomery. He sent me his cell phone number and asked me to give him a call. I did and it was pretty interesting conversation. He was a pretty good dude.

Don't I remember you being called out on a radio show as being anti-Wulff?

I'm sure that I was. Of course, I'm not anti-Wulff enough so I'm considered pro-Wulff on this site. I ended up meeting Paul Wulff's brother (and Paul) in 2010. Got a tour of the bubble and got to watch the team practice there before the Apple Cup. It was interesting to me that Wulff really cared what fans thought about him and he was frustrated that people didn't understand the mess that was left behind for him to clean up.

Of course, Wulff was too arrogant to understand that a lot of the mess that he had to clean up was self made and that he needed to take more accountability for how things had gone. A simpler time of course.

During the Wulff years, I was on here decidedly against Wulff. I knew several families of players back then, and so I knew several players. Wulff was not a good person. Subsequently, the last few years I have met people who were in the circle of friends with Wulff and his late first wife at Eastern. Let's just say Wulff is an even worse person than I thought.

To be frank.....I'm really sorry that any good player had to play on that team. Couldn't even watch those games for a whole lot of time. Went to watch Oregon State play some teams just to cleanse my mind of the memory of watching those games. "OK, this is how college football is played on competitive level."

When I think of Wulff it’s primarily one thing… ‘89 Apple Cup. Played the game the same week he had an emergency appendectomy. Or that’s my memory of it at least.

I don’t have space for any of the other crap save some sympathy for what happened with his mother and wife. Dwelling on the bad doesn’t do anything to make my life better.

Just out of curiosity what makes a coach not a good person. You don't have to be specific. Some people say Jimmy Johnson wasn't a good person because the moment he got to the NFL he jettisoned his wife. Back then to coach at a major university it was frowned upon not to be married. The NFL didn't care.

There are former WSU football players that have a ton of problems, beating wives etc. Was Dan Grayson for example a bad guy, or someone who had CTE? Hard to tell.

I will say Wulff like Walden and Erickson way too easy on "crime" with these kids. Had the growers from Bellevue High. Had walk-on WR's from the Tri City area sticking tequila down his pants stealing from Dissmore's and had a previous incident on campus. Not sure I would be one to judge how good or bad a person is especially a guy whose dad killed his mother. And not to defend Wulff, know numerous people who played for him and were recruited by him that never spoke ill of him other than he and his staff weren't top level Pac 12 coaches and was over his skis.

This is the honest truth, I havent thought about Wulff in a free streaming though of my own since he left. The only time I think about him is when he is brought up on this board. Do I doubt the guy worked hard? Nope. Do I don't he gave it all he had? Nope. He wasn't successful. Blame the people like Floyd, Sterk, and Moos who made the decision to hire and retain him.

I think if Wulff was beating his wife or other such transgressions we would have heard about it. Verbally abusive? Maybe, but to a lot of people that's just "old school."

But like SD said, he no longers affects anything in my life so as long as he's not currently diddling kids or beating women, wtf do I care who is is or what he did in the past?

Your quote sure puts this August 2010 radio quote from Walden into better focus:

"If you would've given Paul Wulff Jake Locker ... believe me Paul Wulff would've been thought of as Steve Sarkisian is right now."
