After the matter become public, I read speculation (Brand Y maybe?) that suggested RoLo probably assumed WSU had vetted JdL and he was in the clear. It's also possible that only a few people in Hawaii knew the seriousness of the situation and they weren't talking (at least not at that time).
Other than that DB from LA that punched that girl in 2014 but got a second chance, Coach Leach was well-known as a zero tolerance type of guy for violence against girls and women. CML probably would've yanked JdL's scholarship offer in 2019 the moment he dug into the details

No HC at a Power 5 school worth a shit is allowing 21 year old kids to make decisions that could negatively effect the university, the team or the brand.

Absolutely hilarious to think about what the situation would look like with the coaching equivalent of Knute Rockne running the WSU sidelines in 2023. We’d have the best evaluated and coached 3rd string QB in the conference manning the huddle. We’d have 3-4 kids that could run and hit! And 87 of the best walk ons in the conference that understood the importance of BiggsBall…1982 level blocking and tackling techniques that would make BSU and Walla Walla JC shake in their boots!
