Jim Horner Interview-Baseball

Found this, through Britt. He commented "Must listen for @CougBaseball fans." And I agree. This guy is excited to come back home.

Just got around to listening to the podcast. He is excited to come back to the northwest and especially to WSU. This is a very good staff that Marty Lees put together on paper. We will have to see how they recruit to know for sure. But, Spencer has been an outstanding pitching coach everywhere he has been. Horner played for Bobo and knows what Pullman is about. He has been mostly in pro ball and developing players.

Already getting excited for baseball. Glad Mr. Hood will write about baseball in the future.

Definitely interested in how they recruit and also how they work with the returning and incoming players. He has managed and at the AA level where a lot of an organizations talent develops. Good listen from Horner and should be a great fit for the staff.

From everything that I've read so far, this first class isn't too bad. How much was Lees, et al, and how much was Marbut is debatable.

-Parker McFadden is out of Yelm and has a mid-90's fast ball, era .78
-Justin Harrer is out of Sisters OR and an infielder that was drafted by the Padres, and turned down a half mill signing bonus to play for WSU.

There are many more that have great stats. The article I've read is from another site I won't link to. But this one isn't bad! Next year will be the telling tale of how well they recruit. But they have a decent class now!

SIDE NOTE: Another piece to the puzzle of staff: Braden Wells

Nice article on Harrer. I saw that yesterday that Wells was hired. Lees has brought OSU north and that is good. I am sure Wells will work with the outfielders. Lees will probably work with the infielders, Spencer the pitchers, and Horner the catchers.

Lees is a very good recruiter, but not sure how much recruiting he will do now that he is the head man and will have more responsibilities on his plate.

I believe most of this class was already committed when Lees was hired. He was able to keep the class together and that is good. All in all, this was a good hire I think.

Agree, definitely Marbut signed but a good sign a quality class with a lot of in-state players didn't scatter to the wind.

man2- "This first class isn't too bad." That is putting it mildly. If the kid from Sisters was going to be drafted about 100th and the pitcher from Yelm is even more highly rated, wow! If Leach and staff were able to get LOI's from two top 100 football recruits we would be dancing in the streets. Not familiar with the potential of the rest of the class but if they are anywhere consistent with those two then we are in good shape.

Not concerned about future recruiting. 1990 says that Lees has a reputation as a good recruiter and the podcast from Harrer was impressive- very enthusiastic.

Dumb question: The new addition, Braden Wells, is listed as a volunteer coach. Volunteer, to me, says unpaid. What side occupation does he have to pay the bills?
