Slightly off topic, semi interesting and maybe not true but I remember hearing the demise of St Johns basketball was when they finally built dorms on campus. Before that the NCAA allowed St John's to give a stipend to players for the average cost apartment in NYC so a lot of the best NYC talent took the stipend and lived at home putting a nice chunk of $$ in their families pockets.
