While the first 1K of the 5K was pedestrian, 15:30 pace, the final 4k was blistering fast, 13:06 pace. Despite the killer pace, Bernard was able to put in a 52.8 final 400. It was a classic case of the strong, non-kickers, like Rupp, trying to drain the kick from the speed guys. Bernard met that challenge easily. In a race 6.5 seconds faster than 2012 Olympic final, he ran the final 400 faster than the Mo Farah, did in winning.

as a casual (actually "sub-casual" is probably more apt) jogger, i will always be amazed by things like what lagat did over the final lap in that race. loved his reaction too.
