are they? they were pretty shitty too, which makes tonight all the more frustrating.
I think they are a pretty solid team. Not sure if they are a tourney team, but probably maybe sortof kinda possibly...
I'd take their top 3 - maybe 4- players over our top 3 or 4. They played with what, 6 players? We have more depth though.
The big kid from Spokane is good. Really good. He's going to make noise there before he's done. Wish we had him.
Random comments about the game...
We were getting owned on the backdowns. No real adjustment to get help for the defender either. But once the pass is made that deep in the key, the defender is in trouble unless they get help. Cannot let them set up like that.
With two minutes left we needed a crucial bucket and one player I won't name bounced it off his leg driving to the hoop. Wow. What a momentum killer. We have no ability to reliably take the ball to the hoop and make a shot. I think Flowers is the only guy I want to have the ball with less than a minute to go when we have to get a bucket. Otherwise, we don't have clutch players. We've seen this in all our losses. We had a crucial open three that was missed with under a minute to go (I think). A wide open shot (not naming the player) and it clunked off the rim. It would have made it a one point game, I believe.
Our bigs, like we all know, are not progressing. That's what I really wanted to see in this game. But also our guards are not doing a good job getting them the ball, so it's not all on the bigs. There were a couple of times when on a high screen and drop back to the basket, the guard missed a wide open Efe and Guaye. The guard just didn't see them and should have.
To be fair, those two guys are fours who are playing the five position. Jackson is a five.
I've reduced my expectations for the Pac12 season. Maybe the media is right and 8th place is where we will end up.
I see us better than UW (they suck), OSU, ASU, and Cal. Not sure about Furd. Oregon is certainly beatable but their coach will get them playing much better by February. We'll split with Utah and Colorado.
If I had to guess now, we'll win 12 conference games. But the conference is bad this year. Of course, with the covid situation, all bets are off on how this season plays out. It's only a matter of time until Omicron sweeps through the league...including WSU.
Remember, it could be worse. We could be the dogs. 😀
My 2 cents.
