Let’s do a WSU vs. bsu game thread

Efe hasn't been right all year. Even the way he's been one-handed has been interesting. Need his physicality.

You look at how we have got the ball to Jackson 3 times down. Only the last feed really put him in position to finish or get fouled.

Gueye with a nice spinning dribble drive, but couldn’t finish. BSU really extending their D early. Gonna be an ugly game.

Noah thinks he is Jordan and doesn't play within himself at all.

He is a complimetary piece and needs to make the right play and not try to be flashy.

U G L Y. How does a college bball team consistently struggle to shoot better than 35%.

Crap tonight? It's been this way all season... Insanely "athletic" frontline, maybe the best ever at WSU, but none of them have a low post game or dominates the boards.

Plenty of games with those guys in there, can't grab rebounds, loose balls, etc..

Their jump hooks are not shots with touch, but throws at the basket. Pretty much wasting their talent if no one teaching them to play down low.

Oh, and if Jakimovsky has to dribble for this offense to run, then, we're f'd...

Jaki can dribble and shoot and pass. Wish he did it more often than watching Roberts dribble into shot blocks and Williams dribble off his foot out of bounds or throw it away with terrible decisions.

I can't wait for the comments about how the loss is no big deal because Boise state is a tourney team.

Why is Gueye on the floor? I said it before there is no way any form of any kind of analytical stats / data can possibly be putting him in the line up! Did Smith promise him playing time to bring him out early? Terrible basketball game after game.

Recruits from Africa are fine but the two kids from Spokane know how to play the game.

Was totally stoked on Smith his first two years. He’s getting exposed. Perhaps there’s a reason he’s job hopped three times as a head coach.

Need to spend more time teaching and coaching.

Smith seems to be a strong recruiter but a average bench coach and quite possibly a below average practice coach. We don’t seem prepared for games and not a ton of player improvement year to year. Noah had a great jump between freshmen and joy II year but seems to have regressed. Mainly because he believes he is something he is not, he is a solid player as a second option but he struggles as option one and NBA prospect? Well we don’t have any of those!

are they? they were pretty shitty too, which makes tonight all the more frustrating.

I think they are a pretty solid team. Not sure if they are a tourney team, but probably maybe sortof kinda possibly...

I'd take their top 3 - maybe 4- players over our top 3 or 4. They played with what, 6 players? We have more depth though.

The big kid from Spokane is good. Really good. He's going to make noise there before he's done. Wish we had him.

Random comments about the game...

We were getting owned on the backdowns. No real adjustment to get help for the defender either. But once the pass is made that deep in the key, the defender is in trouble unless they get help. Cannot let them set up like that.

With two minutes left we needed a crucial bucket and one player I won't name bounced it off his leg driving to the hoop. Wow. What a momentum killer. We have no ability to reliably take the ball to the hoop and make a shot. I think Flowers is the only guy I want to have the ball with less than a minute to go when we have to get a bucket. Otherwise, we don't have clutch players. We've seen this in all our losses. We had a crucial open three that was missed with under a minute to go (I think). A wide open shot (not naming the player) and it clunked off the rim. It would have made it a one point game, I believe.

Our bigs, like we all know, are not progressing. That's what I really wanted to see in this game. But also our guards are not doing a good job getting them the ball, so it's not all on the bigs. There were a couple of times when on a high screen and drop back to the basket, the guard missed a wide open Efe and Guaye. The guard just didn't see them and should have.

To be fair, those two guys are fours who are playing the five position. Jackson is a five.

I've reduced my expectations for the Pac12 season. Maybe the media is right and 8th place is where we will end up.

I see us better than UW (they suck), OSU, ASU, and Cal. Not sure about Furd. Oregon is certainly beatable but their coach will get them playing much better by February. We'll split with Utah and Colorado.

If I had to guess now, we'll win 12 conference games. But the conference is bad this year. Of course, with the covid situation, all bets are off on how this season plays out. It's only a matter of time until Omicron sweeps through the league...including WSU.

Remember, it could be worse. We could be the dogs. 😀

My 2 cents.

You are spot on about post defense. Once BSU started doing that the game was over. If we could have managed to shoot even 40%, we probably win easily.
