Let’s try a prediction thread.

I have two predictions:
First is what I call the "Leach/ Shaw" prediction, which is what happens if USC has "their gameplan" and they stick to it because thats what they do and goddamit, we do what we do even to our detriment:
USC 28, WSU 10
Btw, Helton was guilty of this as well, but he's not tenured enough to have an idiosyncracy named after him...

The second is what will happen if they come out and play to their strengths/ our weaknesses, which means line up 7-8 guys in the box and cram it down our throat for 250+ yards on the ground.
USC 31, WSU 3

I also predict that the board trolls will not be present because there isn't "topical" disucssion in this thread, only football.

This is a tough one. Last year, the speed on their d line made JDL look like he had cement shoes.

I think we will give them problems this year ..but not necessarily enough to win the day.

Ah...F it. 31-27 Cougs

Overly likely: WSU 13 USC 44 “Pin this one on me, we have to be better” - Rolo. Stutzman sits in the corner researching ivermectin and fertility rates instead of how give the ball to Borghi.

Possible: WSU 34 USC 31 Rain and wind give Rolo a breath as USC has their one air raid constricted game. Rolo is canned 5 weeks later instead of 4.

The rain prompts USC to pound the rock. Rain gives our receivers and advantage on which routes to option into leading to a good day in the air for JDL. He throws two picks because he flat out misses his receiver. USC 28, Cougs 27.

I don’t see why usc would change anything about last years plan…throw it up in the vicinity of their receivers and let them do what they do. Cougs find a spark on offense tho.

USC-45 Cougs-28

Think its a close game, but even with the mess of USC I think thier talent, size and speed along with WSU being a bit stary eyed come up short.

SC 24
WSU 21

USC hasn't looked great, but our performance has been mediocre at best, on both sides. Our game planning looks poor, we don't make good adjustments, our execution isn't great, and our blocking is bad. USC probably comes in with a little more fire than previous, with their new coach and wanting to prove that they deserve some hype.

The weather is not going to cooperate. Up to half an inch of rain and 20 MPH winds. That's going to favor the team that can dig in and pound the ball. I look again at our OL, and say...that's not us.

In keeping with my general refusal to pick against my own team, I will provide no score. But I've seen nothing that makes me optimistic.

There is no sane, logical reason why the Cougs should even have a chance to win this game. But, I've been a devout Coug fan since childhood (over 50 years) so that automatically proves I'm not sane or logical.

Therefore I'm gonna go with my gut feeling that the Cougs win 31-28.

I am thinking SC 42-17, if they run a lot, but if they don't play to their strengths it's a close game. Cougs need to jump out in front early to keep it close. I would guess half of USC's team has never played in the rain, that might be a factor. WSU OL still seems to be figuring out how to run block, don't pull tackles in the rain, won't work against SC too quick.

Considering the likelihood of wet conditions, I think most people are predicting too many points

Depends on how SC shows up. Could be a blowout, or could be a trap game for them.

With the weather conditions, and an amped up crowd, I tend to think the Cougs will be in this game.

If JDL is mistake free and the running backs get yards, we win by a field goal.

Or do they abort the passing game for the most part and then then run all over us?

The first thing a good OC does is try to overpower the defense. If you can run between the tackles its gonna be a long day for the defense. The next thing is the deep ball. If they can throw deep on your defense it will be a quick day.

Both is a problem.

It will be interesting to see what GH does.

The Seattle Times picks the Cougs in an upset. Considering most people here think the Seattle Times is relentlessly anti-Coug it is interesting that they are more optimistic about this game than most of the posters on this board.

Perhaps they're more anti SC than they are anti WSU?
At any rate, I hope they're right!

Nah, that is basic newspaper trolling.

Both ways they win.

I would feel better about our chances if the coaching change hadn't happened. Prediction: WSU 21, USC 31.

34-24 Trojans. It’s not really that close, garbage time Coug TD makes it look somewhat respectable.

They are clearly going for the Jim Moore Kiss of death. And it will probably work. F the Seattle Times.
