Losing our best recruiter

That is a HUGE HIT, at a BAD TIME.

BUT, Smith is a awesome recruiter himself, and is good at hiring awesome recruiter assistant coaches.

And SHAW is also a pretty dam good recruiter as well.

If it was coaches like Bone, Kent, Eastman, etc, this kind of thing would be worse.

But because it's Smith, and because of WSU's, Smith's international recruiting reputation, and because of getting players like Abogidi, Gueye, etc, then WSU will probably continue to get AWESOME INTERNATIONAL RECRUITS.

And INTERNATIONAL RECRUITS usually don't fall prey to things like NIL, Transfer Portal, Conference realignment, etc, as often as domestic players.

I know this sucks in addition to NJIE leaving, but NJIE is a domestic player, not a international player, and NJIE was recruited to play in 2025, which means there is a lot of time to replace NJIE with another awesome player.

Also it's easier to recruit for basketball, then football, so post conference realignment, I expect WSU bball, Smith to recruit better, do better then WSU football, Dickert, over the long term.

Timing still sucks tho, and still a huge hit tho.

At least it's Florida that's getting him, and not one of the PAC teams that bolted to Big 10, Big 12.

Florida is getting a awesome gem.

I assume this will push Shaw back out recruiting. He was supposed to be done with off campus recruiting but this could change that.

More likely that the recruiting coordinator gets made into an Assistant.
