SDSU and Boise St didn’t help our Net/KenPom

Should have taken Richmond after running the A10 tournie.

zags up 2 at halftime after sleep walking through first 20 minutes. I’ll be surprised if they don’t win by 20.

Yeah but Iowa ran the Big Tourney. Good game. Zags now rolling.

True. Little correlation between NCAA tournie success and teams that run through their conference tournament punching above their weight class.
Hard to say.. The tournament is more about style of play then anything else. When your playing conference games you know what to expect..

UK came out with their britches too big, that's all that was. Not mentally prepared to get punched in the mouth, expecting to sleepwalk through the game. It happens all the time.

Really, really bad coaching at the end of both Kentucky and SDSU last night. Kentucky down 4 with plenty of time left and their guy comes down and hurries a bad 3. A 3 does nothing. Down 4, it's two possessions, get an easy two and put yourself in a position to win it.

SDSU did nothing to free up their big gun and instead he punted it twice on dribbles. They also gave Creighton time to come down and score which ultimately led to their demise.

SDSU just had to hit a couple FT’s

San Francisco Vs Murray St was a good game last night. The USF coach looks like he’s 24 max but he sure looks like he can coach.

He just got hired by Florida and the article on ESPN says UF was impressed with his analytics acumen which he learned from analytics guru Kyle Smith

As tight as these schools are this might have some changes coming as well on our staff. They are all really close and someone might get tabbed to move up.

What the heck happened to Alabama? They seemed like they were on fire earlier in the year, was it injures or what?

edit: Ehh, after looking at their schedule they have some notable wins but they have some really suspect losses. Weird, I thought they would do a LOT better than they did this year.

Chattanooga played their hearts out against Illinois last night. Held the lead the entire game until the last minute. Heartbreaking loss for the team out of TN. Sidenote, Kofi Cockburn (pronounced Coburn, which is unfortunate) is an absolute beast for Illinois. 7'0 3 Bills and not an ounce of fat. Freakishly freakish.

Curious everyone’s prediction on the zags. I have them bowing out against Arkansas which probably means they will win It all this year. I personally don’t think they have the toughness to win against talented teams that play physical.

They'll need Watson and Strawther to step up in physical games. That's not Bolton's game at all. In last year's final Nembhard was about the only Zag to punch back so he's not questionable.

Timme can handle the physicality but he picks up one or two stupid fouls. That's fine in blowouts but he has to be on the floor most of the game.

A lot depends on whether the officials let opponents beat on Holmgren. First half of the GA State game, they clubbed him pretty good and the refs swallowed their whistle. Holmgren really lost his composure and was crying for calls. Better in the second half but, in my opinion, the Zags chances rest as much on him keeping his composure as anything.

Arizona is playing better than Gonzaga right now and are more athletic/capable of handling physicality.

Remember Jaylen Shead? transfer who got injured from Coach Smiths first recruiting class. His brother is Jamal Shead from Kelvin’s Houston team. In case anybody was looking for another WSU connection in NCAA tourney.

TCU vs Zona was the best game of the tournie that I was able to watch. Arizona got away with a foul at the end of regulation that would have probably cost them the game.

It's early but Kelvin Sampson is pounding corrupt Zona. I like it.

Simpson's teams are always so tough and physical. Amazing to me that SMU beat Houston....twice?

Kelvin was 2-30 vs the Top 25 when he coached in Pullman.
That was 30 years ago when he was in his mid-30s. Sampson has refined his abilities to the point where his teams compete well against everyone....even the big boy teams. Of course, he's "pushed the envelope" along the way and has had a tainted career but his teams have always played extremely hard and generally succeed.

By the way, that Shead kid is a good one. I wonder if Kyle Smith had an extra motive in giving his brother a scholarship a couple of years ago. A point guard like that would make the current Cougar team extremely dangerous.

Glad Cougar
