...was not gaining possession of Goff's fumble inside the Cal 5 yard line. I counted at least two Cougar defenders who could have/should have pounced on that ball but couldn't make the big play. The next play was the 3rd and 36 draw. Certainly, the fake punt turnover could be considered the biggest play and I wouldn't argue, but what a golden opportunity to change the outcome of the game. For as well as the defensive front played, the fumble was the kind of gift winning teams take advantage of. We just aren't there yet.

And the 42 yard run on 3rd and 36 was probably the second biggest. Instead of getting the ball around midfield, with more time, Cal bled the clock more before turning it over on downs.

Cal caught some MAJOR LEAGUE breaks in this one, kind of like our kicker missing the 19-yard FG last year. Dykes all but admitted they got away with one.

They have 19 out of 22 starters as upper classmen. We are a much younger team and we could have beat them. So I'm not too worried.
