Winning isn't the only thing, but it is very important. Chun got this hire right and its such a breath of fresh air.

Having the best player in the conference doesn't hurt.
I wonder if CJ would be the great player he is right now without Smith coming on board. Elleby is so much better this year and has become so much more well rounded, including at the defensive end. Don't think that would've happened with Ernie still around. I credit Kent for recruiting CJ but the kid is so much better off playing for the current staff.

By the way, no disrespect to Elleby, but I think the best player in the conference is Peyton Pritchard....and I can't stand the Ducks. But I would put CJ down as runner up.

CJ is a really fine player but I think that if he has another year then we will see much more when Coach Smith gets to the offensive side of things. Spent a huge amount of time on the defense which is where it was needed but his system on offense is also very fine.

If CJ stays another year, he goes 12 to 23 in 1st round, instead of 24 to last pick of 1st round to 1 pick of 2nd round to last pick of 2nd round.

HUUUUGGGGEEE RISK to leave this year, IF he falls, slides to bottom of 1st round to bottom of 2nd Round.

If he stays another year, then leaves, and then if he slides, he slides no further then about 22,23 at worst. But he would have about a 25 to 33 to 43% chance to go about 11,12,13,14 of 1st round, and about a 45 to 63% chance of going 13,14,15,16 in 1st round, and only about a 3 to 9% chance to slide lower then top 20 to about 23, and only about a 1/2 of 1% chance of sliding lower then 25,26,27 of 1st round.

Klay was even more ready, polished then CJ, his sophmore year. 1 more year for both Klay, CJ wouldnt have made a 15 to 23 spot difference, cause Klay, CJ to go Top 3 to top 6 to top 9.

But it will, would be enough to go up 4 to 8 to 12 more spots.

If Klay would have left his sophmore year, he probably would have gone about 21 to last pick of 1st round to 1st pick of 2nd round.

So Klay staying, going to the NIT championship, was worth about 8 to 16 spots, picks of improvement.

If CJ stays he will probably get about 4 to 12 spots, picks of improvement. So CJ would go about an average of 8 spots. 8 spots from 23 would be about 14,15th in 1st round with more safety slide room, then he has now.

The only reason for CJ to leave after the season, is if his NBA projection puts him in Top 17 to Top 20 to top 22 at worst, or if afraid of injury possibility, or struggles with grades, or if Kent was still his coach.

I dont think CJ will be projected to go in top 21. As for injury CJ can get injury insurance. I dont think CJ will struggle with grades. And Smith is a good coach.

I think there is about a 75% to 80% chance of CJ staying for 1 more year.

Personally, I think if anyone is assured of being drafted in the first 2 rounds, they should go. At that point, the bigger risk is staying and getting injured or having something happen that lowers your draft stock.

Elleby is a leader. He doesn't shrink at adversity. THAT is what he truly brings to the table. It's what WSU has needed.

And for what it's worth, I believe Noah will be his replacement in that role.

WSU is leadership starved. They will rally like none other if they are shown the way.

First round picks get guaranteed money, the minimum equates to like 2 million a year for 3 years. As far as I know the risk would be Falling to the second round where there is no guarantee. Plus often it can be better to go undrafted so agent can shop you around to every team in the league based on your skill set and the teams needs. NBA scouts don’t care at all about what tournament a kid plays in or how they do in that tournament look at Toby Bailey from UCLA and Scotty Thurman from Arkansas. If you are going to be a first round pick you really have little choice you need to go.

I don't think that's disrespect...Pritchard is possibly a T5 player in the nation.

Nothing wrong with being mentioned in the same realm with Pritchard. Going in the Oregon State game I kind of thought Tinkle was the best in the league but he seemed more one demential than I remembered!
