MBK Final: Cougs 74, Oregon 71 (Story + Stats + Highlights + Postgame)

Would it kill these guys to do just a little research? Or just know their stuff in general?

"Charcoal"? Really? We've had the anthracite for going on a decade now, there's been press releases, its kinda unique so it shouldn't be that hard to remember.

Hey, I consider a victory these days when announcers don't refer to us as the "huskies". (Lower case intentional)

Glad Cougar

I give the announcers credit for at least trying to sound informed. That beats the days not so long ago when they sometimes did not even make the effort.

You're too kind. Casey Jacobson called us Washington many times last night. Same thing he did a couple of weeks ago (Stanford game, I think). In that game he even called us the huskies once.

I stopped getting upset a long long time ago in a land far far way regarding the announcers. All of them screw up. You can find fault with all of them. I am just happy that I can watch most games. For most of my life, that hasn't been the case.

I respectively disagree~!

Greg Heister, who calls play by play for all of our home games when on Pac-12N, does IMO, an extraordinary job calling the COUGS. Greg lives in Spokane and is dedicated to the COUGS at home, and calls for Gonzaga, too.

I've never heard Greg screw up.

He's superior over others, IMO, and knows our program and team, inside and out, backwards and forwards.

The larger point I made went way over your head. Honestly, I care about watching the game, not about what the play by play and analyst say.

I'm definitely use to it, but it is still amazing when broadcaster can't keep Washington and Washington State straight. I really don't think the two schools could be any more different. I could see confusing Oregon/OSU or Arizona/ASU, which are just a few miles apart. But between the urban/rural, westside costal/eastside farmland, professonal/landgrant, dogs/cats, its really NOT THAT HARD to tell the difference...

It's really just laziness and lack of attention to detail. I did my fair share of play-by-play in college and some as a professional a lifetime ago, and I know I wasn't perfect. But failure to get the team names correct is really inexcusable. These guys get paid decently and it's their job to get the basics right. More often than not these days, I mute the audio and just watch the TV.

This.

Its their job. True, I don't really gaf about being called "washington" or "the huskies" - its happened a million times. However, most of those people who make that mistake are ignorant - its these guys jobs to not be ignorant. I'm not asking them to know ever guy on our roster and their backstory, but bare minimum you should know what team you're announcing, their colors, and their mascot. Their home town too. Coach's name would be a plus.

If any of us went to work and didn't or couldn't consistently fulfill the basic requirements of the job, we wouldn't be long for that job. End of story. You'd be fired.

Again, I'm not losing any sleep over it, but the incompetence that is tolerated throughout all media (read any print media lately? You'd think with spell check... ) is truly appalling.
