MBK Final: Utah 92, Cougs 79 (Story + Stats + Highlights + Postgame)

There was no defense. I cannot figure out why he plays Daniels. Daniels basically did not play against the Arizona schools and they played good defense. Against Utah Daniels was his usual ineffective self. it was not one player as they basically did not play good defense and they lost by double figures An ass kicking is an ass kicking

Daniels had 13 points and 6 assists. He is small and slow for his size, but he isnt to blame for last nights loss. Utah was able to turn up their defense a notch last night in the first 20 minutes of the second half on Franks. We slowed Barfield down but other scorers stepped up for him.

60% of Utah's shots were from beyond the 3 pt line.

I'm ready for the 3 point line to be moved back. The mid range game is dead in college.

People will bemoan our D last night, but it's pretty tough to defend 3 long range shooters and not give up the post. They had 3 guys hit at least 4 threes. A few careless tos, and some bad bounces were a bigger factor than poor D last nught

It seemed that many of Utah's 3s were beyond where a new line will be.

The two teams were playing on the same court. One has to accept the losses as well as the wins. Bang the drum slowly.

What El C seems to be saying is this will take time and we should have patience. Five years is not long enough.

Oh well. They did get 3,000 fans so that was nice.

Let's hope they can win a couple more down the stretch, just because as Cougs we want our teams to win. They have shown enough life and promise (cough) that any discussion of EK's departure after this year is pretty much moot. So we can put that to bed until next Fall/Winter.

Oh and there is a little thread on the Brand X BB board about this board. "Clown Central" they called us. Maybe KermitErickson will show up and bring something to this table. Or maybe he is already here.....under another name........

Heres the problem with 5 years not enough. Fire Kent tommorrow, and 5 years becomes 8 years. I am more interested in where we are than how long it took us to get here. This team looks like it has finally become competitive with the upper tier teams in the league. Yes we lose Franks, but Kunc, Elleby, Cannon will all improve. Even the pgs have a little upside left

KermitErickson seems to have it out for you. I think that's the second time he's called out one of your post. Other posts of his/her suspiciously have a similar tone to a Coug Zone poster of days past.

We lose Franks and Daniels but bring in John, Murphy, Henson, and Moore at the end of December. We have to hope the light goes all the way on for one of the PGs or we pickup one in the spring.

No what i was saying with a little gusto is that when you back a team you have to accept the losses.Of course everyone wants a winner. Kent started off wrong by hiring other old guys to coach with him., Basketball is a younger man s game and an older coach needs younger coaches to build a good program. He has a much better staff now and the recruiting has really improved. Recruiting to Pullman is basically building relationships with young talented players who are not 4 star recruits. This staff has done so and despite losing Franks i expect a better team next year. The financial situation almost mandates that Kent and his staff return next year.I do like the returning corp of players and think losing Daniels and others is a good thing . I hope they recruit a frosh PG and a big man like Applegren this year.

I guess young coach is a matter of opinion and depends what you are comparing them to but Haskins is over 50 and Seltzer has to be close to 50. Allen was the youngest guy on the staff and you couldn’t wait to get rid of him

Lots of people have it out for me. Governments and various agencies too.

I saw the first one where he was talking about me (forget about what now), but I didn't think I was the subject of the latest BB rant. I assumed it was one of the other usual suspects over here on this board. I think it is funny that they are seemingly obsessed with us.

A coach today around 50 is the right age with a blend of experience and still some vigor. The mentoring of these guys is also important as all of them will be away from home and getting used to a new life.Speaking of Allen, Pepperdine is 13-15 this year and has recruited 3 2 stars and 1 3 star recruit . Addition by subtraction.

Good point on age. Haskins had to help get us in the door for Elleby and knows WSU. The profile of the recruits changed when Seltzer came in as well and he obviously knows WSU.

I don’t know how old or how much influence Marion or recruiting coordinator MclRoy have with recruits. I just think the staff is setup mulch better than it was initially.

I agree the staff has improved over the original group. I think it has started to pay off somewhat in recruiting but it still has a ways to go. We hit the jackpot with Elleby, which is a good base to recruit around. Loosing Franks will be hard to replace and put added pressure on Elleby but I think it might actually be better for his game. He seems to thrive on the pressure.

Someone mentioned that Elleby maked 2 jaw dropping great plays then a bone head frosh mistake. Very true. I dont think not having Franks will make Elleby better, just the normal progress from frosh to soph will make him better. Added improvement from Cannon and Kunc should more than offset loss of Franks. Maybe we even get some 2nd year jc imrovement from the pgs.

The recruiting is not over and there are a couple of potential recruits whom i really like. let s see what happens the rest of the way
