MBK Final: UW 65, Cougs 63 (Story + Stats + Highlights + Postgame)

I wonder why we had so many turnovers? 🤔 I will never understand how people think he doesn’t give us the best chance to win..
Above all else I was impressed by Rapp today. He is growing on me..

Kunc had arguably his best game in a Cougar uniform and he's been playing pretty well in general over the last 4 or 5 games. I don't think he missed a shot of any kind all night. He had 5 or 6 boards, a block or maybe 2, setup Efe for an easy dunk. UW helps but you still have to go out and do it and he did it. Too bad it came in a loss.

Jackson got a bit of "Baynes" treatment tonight.

Too many turnovers in the first half. Tightened it up in the second half but sometimes this team doesn't value possessions like it should. With or without Bonton, that's their achilles heel.

Several times they threw the ball right to a Husky. That's always driven me crazy. Can't the see the guy in between them and their teammate? Any doubt in anyone's mind that we would have won that game if Bonton had been able to play?

Good observation, need some old fashioned discipline.

It's all math. Cougs aren't a get out and run squad (yet). The huskies are a horrific offensive team and by turning it over 30 times with zero buckets/attempts at buckets, it essentially gave the dawgs 30 free trips downcourt with nothing to lose.

I despise turnovers more than anything. Bad shooting happens but at least with bad shooting, there’s a chance one goes in every once in a while. No such opportunity with a turnover.

How many times did Dick Bennett preach this: "Value the basketball".

You hit the nail on the head. There's absolutely no chance of scoring when you turn the ball over. And all too often, the turnover can result in a higher percentage shot for the opposition. Many of those turnovers were unforced. Cougs win last night with probably 3 fewer turnovers. It's as simple as that.

Glad Cougar

I’m sure Dick Bennett preached value the basketball as I’m sure Ken Bone did Ernie Kent did and Kyle smith does. Fact of the matter is Dick Bennett was never really able to curtail the turn overs. His second year team averaged 14 a game this years team is averaging 15 a game. To high yes, but unexpected for a team this young? No.

Last year we were 4th in the conference at 12.3 turnovers per game. This year we are dead last (although basically a dead heat w/ Stanford). We might as well have handed them the ball on a number of them last night. I see it as youth as well.

"A bad shot is better than a turnover." Kyle Smith last year after a particularly wild shooting night from Bonton.

The problem as I perceive it is that after a player does something brain dead there seems to be no accountability. But I think this just points out that we need a couple of "real" Point Guards. Also some of the schemes seem to be rather odd. Passing baseline in bounds to the corner for one thing.
