Lead by Frank's double double, 31 pts, 11 rebounds. Elleby 12 pts, 8 assists.

We controled the game quite easily from start to finish. The only reason Nicholls wasn't completely blown out was due to them chucking 3's all night, especially in the 2nd half. They shot 45 3's!!!, making 16.

Player Observations:

Franks looked great. Needs to do a better job on the FT line though.

Elleby was impressive in his first game. His hustle and transition game is incredible. His game reminds me a bit of a young Weaver, and both long/athletic, but he's probably ahead of Weaver at the same point in their career. His outside shot needs some work, but he's good at everything like Weaver was, hustle, movement, passing, rebounding, defense, and the intangibles. He's going to fill up the stat sheet for years like Weaver did. I hope I'm not being too bold by making this statement...

Kunc looked solid and was a good contributor, 6 pts 4 reb. Same for Wade + good passing and hustle, 8 pts 2 reb.

Ali was solid at running point, 5 assists. He took a couple shots that looked awkward, so I'm hoping that gets better.

Chidom was very solid, a lot of hustle and great passing by him. 10 pts, 5 reb, 3 assists, 4 steals, a pretty dang good stat line, especially coming off the bench.

Team Observations:

We are way more athletic than last year.

Our transition game was impressive, especially Elleby, but the other forwards/bigs moved great too.

Passing and ball movement was outstanding. I was really impressed by the passing from our post players.

Only 8 turnovers! I never really had a feeling of any "sloppy playing" throughout the game.

We would have won by 30+ pts if they weren't chucking 3's left and right, especially when they were making a ton of them in the second half.

We had 8 dunks in the game. Last year only 28 total dunks.

Was a really fun game to watch. Too bad the crowd looked incredibly sparse. Those who didn't attend in Pullman definitely missed out on a fun game to watch.

The crowds will pick up as fans see an improved team. The team will improve as the new players adjust to D1 ball. Elleby is a very good player as is Kunc. As i said in an early post he was the best player on the court when his team played Garfield with all of their 4 star rated players.Hopefully they will get off to a fast start this season.

I thought over all the team looked pretty good considering the competition was less than I had hoped for. The passing was good especially on the interior and I was impressed with the 1-3-1 defense our length gave them trouble. It looks like coach might want to go with a big line up.
As far as players go I’ll go by class
Seniors
Nothing much to report Daniels was solid and ran the point quite a bit and Franks was by far the best player in the game as expected. I don’t see Cooper seeing much time this year again.

Juniors returning
Pollard and Skaggs, again not much to report basically they did what I expected although I had hoped Skaggs would bring more to the table this year than just shooting the 3 which based on the first game is not the case.

Juniors new
Unfortunately this group seems mostly like same story different year. There are serviceable players here but nothing too overly impressive. Ali seems to be ahead of Jervae who didn’t play a ton but Ali imo is nowhere near Flynn or Ike. Wade is ultra athletic and will find a role as will Ali by default. Streeter didn’t play.

Sophomore returners
Chidom looked the best I’ve seen him. We might very well get out of him this year what we thought we were going to get last year. He played with more confidence and looked comfortable out there.

Sophomore new
Cannon played a little but based solely on how little he played coach must not be to high on him.

Freshmen
Very impressed with these two. Elleby is not overly athletic but he has a high motor and seems to have a very good understanding of the game. Kunc has good length and moves well without the ball also think he has high basketball IQ. He might have trouble creating his own shot but doubt he’ll be asked to this year. Both these guys could have issues the first time through the PAC 12 but should learn quickly. Not sure I could’ve been happier with my first glance of our freshmen.

The team handled this opponent without any real problem but based on what I saw this team is going to really struggle in the PAC 12 conference.

I would like to argue with you but i did not watch the game, However i do not see the PAC 12 as an overwhelming league this year, I only see Oregon and perhaps USC with excellent talent SO let s see how this team comes together.

Pretty much agree with your analysis. I do think Franks has taken his game to yet another level. Apparently Ali is coming off an injury and wasnt 100%. I cant predict when this team will jell, but the upside is pretty high

I think they can be somewhat competitive, but I'm not sure to what level yet. Nor am I really setting any type of expectations for them. I just enjoyed watching them, the energy level really made them fun to watch. Even if they lose a good amount of games this year but keep up this energy and enthusiasm, they will be entertaining to watch.

Franks dominated that game without even breaking a sweat. 31 pts and 11 boards without much effort. He scores 35+ if he was better at the FT line. He needs to improve on that, 4-8 from the line.

Plus the team was only 57% from the line with too many 1 and 1's missed. That needs cleaned up.
