Mike Hopkins 47,Syracuse assistant coach is the new mutt coach. He has been coach in waiting for seven years for jim Boeheim to retire .It seems udub aimed low but i really do not know much about Hopkins.

Slightly shocked with that decision given they reportedly can offer $2-3 million, good facilities, good to great local talent (although small pool), Seattle, etc. I don't know anything about Hopkins. Maybe it ends up a home run hire but doesn't seem well thought out on the surface.

The news blurb said something about him being a builder of programs. I guess he is from the California area and had applied for the OSU job before Tinkle got it. That is all that s out there now.

We'll see. It is an interesting and uninspiring choice. But, who knows. Maybe it will be a great hire. Of course, I hope he sucks.

Sounds like a potentially good hire after taking a look. He was coach-in-waiting but Boheim doesn't seem in any hurry to retire. There is talk Hopkins was involved in some of the mess at Syracuse but is considered a good recruiter and highly disciplined.

Hope he sucks as well.

He played at Syracuse. Supposedly, Boheim was going to coach two more years. But, a job in hand is better than a potential job in the future. I have read in the last day or so that he is a good recruiter. But, he was recruiting to Syracuse. How hard could that be?

This is a damn good hire by UW. Low key sneaky good. (Trust me, I hate to give them credit.)

Cougs are already getting out-recruited, but this isn't going to help. Has connections coast to coast and well-regarded by his players.

Syracuse always seemed to under perform under Boeheim. The recruiting was never a problem but the coaching was not super. Boeheim had success but Syracuse is in a recruiting hotbed. Time will tell how good a hire this is.

I was going to post something similar earlier today after finding out a bit more about him. I think it's a really good hire as long as he sticks around. He's definitely ready for his own program, he kept Conroy on the staff for the purge sound, Syracuse recruits nationally, and he knows the game plus he is known as a discipline guy. Sounds like a good fit even if he loses some Seattle kids early they will come back if he starts to win.

Time will tell.

So Jim Boeheim has under performed as a coach, yet Ernie Kent has a proven track record? No slight to Kent but there is really no comparison.

I guess I didn't realize that four total Final Fours and one National Title is underperforming.

Big time hire. This guy recruits and can get players to play defense. Major upgrade. He is well connected in Nike circles.

No one is or has compared Kent to Boehiem. When i used to gamble a lot in Las Vegas, the word was always take Syracuse.s opponents if it is an important game a with a well coached team. One of the mutt commits Blake Harris just decommitted from the Huskies. There will be more,of that i am sure.So it will be along road ahead for the new coach. It may prove harder for him to recruit nationally to udub than it was to Syracuse.

Hopkins will not happen. i ll predict that the new coach will not have the same recruiting success with Seattle kids that Romar did. Perhaps after a couple of years that may change. The new coach will it tough sledding for a while.

The exodus continues. Michael Porter has officially asked for his release. Soon others will follow as the new coach watches a talent drain continue. I will guess that at least a couple more players ask for their release or transfer . This not a surprise and the surprise will be if he can recruit anywhere near the level at which Romar did. Nice

I would expect most if not all to at least open up thier recruitment and re-evaluate the situation. I doubt most of them chose to sign with UW because of the school. This and other places that have coaching changes are probably Kents best recruiting opertunity this late in the game. Also might be good hunting for a one and done graduate transfer who thinks his coach was mistreated

The Auburn transfer announced he's doing the grad transfer thing. At 2 pts. 2 rebounds per game or whatever he probably finds a non P-5 conference if he's smart.

There is a very cynical biting article on the other board about Hopkins The gist of it is that he was born on third base with a sliver spoon in his mouth and acts like he had to tough out life. I doubly hope he falls flat on his face

Noah Dickerson has announced his transfer.

If there was one big I would want off their roster from a talent perspective it's Malik Dime but the CU slapping incident is something hard to defend.

Michael porter officially released by udub from his letter of intent. others to surely follow.

Dickerson is a nice player. I would rather have him than Dime
Do you think Kent inquires? He obviously would need to sit a year and only would have one to play. I would probably rather the JC with 3 years left. The other possibility is asking him to walk-on for his transfer year. I don't know that we have the juice for that scenario.

Noah Dickerson and Mathew Ayewe have both asked to be released. Both are big men and will further deplete the mutt roster Hard times ahead for the new coach.
