Who is/was the better coach for WSU? Who will have more wins and winning seasons?

Tough to compare because of totally different era's. Could Doba's defense contain the different versions of the spread better?? Would the one back offense put up enough points to win today? Maybe but things have changed a bit.

What did Price do down at UTEP, in terms of overall record at UTEP? What has Saban done after leaving LSU for Alabama?
Can you really compare Price to Leach?

It's an interesting question, but you take the guy with the long tenure and two Rose Bowls in the books already, rather than speculating. I do think that Leach eventually eclipses the win number because of how different scheduling is now, though.

What does Saban and LSU have to do with WSU?

this is another results vs. conjecture thread and simply too early to analyze, IMO.

Price left WSU and did nothing down at UTEP. Saban left LSU and took the same hands to work with him. He's a winner. It's in his DNA. He's got the right stuff, which makes him "elite", wherever he goes. Saban can turn Wyoming around, (not sure Idaho, though).

Price is not an elite coach, nor was he ever featured on 60 Minutes. Both Saban and Leach have been featured and on 60 Minutes.

Are we 100% sure Price was never on 60 Minutes?

I mean, never for his coaching, sure...

I'm not sure if you are sincere with the question? CBS 60 Minutes is arguably the biggest stage for News reporting in the world, let along USA. Nothing is bigger on reporting stories than 60 Minutes. The White House and Pentagon literally react Monday morning on what happened on 60 Minutes the night before. Take the IRS Tax scam, or the recent Veterans Admin Health Care debacle, for example. I can name dozens of examples where our government is immediately reactive of what they saw on 60 Minutes.

Basically, 60 Minutes gets congress to get off their butt to do something about it. They feel ashamed, and they react by printing money and solving the problem, (hopefully).

Last night was our nation bridges, how thousands are in neglect and need replacement. Mark my word, today Congress will meet to discuss how they can print more money to fix our nations bridges, especially in Philadelphia. BTW, Steve Kroft pronounced Skagit River wrong. Anyone catch that?

I don't know what this has to do about Football, but Mike Price never made it on 60 Minutes. Basically, never made it to the big time. Period.

Price had a little incident down in Alabama. Raised a lot of questions about media integrity, was much bigger than just football news- that's what I'm referring to, wouldn't be surprised at all if it was a 60 Minutes topic.

It just dawned on me people may be answering this question from multiple perspectives.

"What coach enjoyed the highest level of achievement post WWII(just threw that in there) as head coach while at WSU, Price or Leach?" Is a great future debate for us to look forward to, I hope.

MI...some could make the argument what Leach has done at WSU is less than

Price did at Utep. WSU is 3-9, 6-7, and best case 4-8, or 3-9 this year. It could just be like Rich Rod found out at Michigan that sometimes it is about fit more than anything else.

I think Price has/had better assistants, namely on defense.

You can look at the number of the defensive assistants, that went on to bigger jobs, as a benchmark for that.

Outside of Coach Joe, is their any staff member on defense that is a potential DC or head coach?

I would not be surprised if Coach Joe goes down to Hawaii as a future HC.

Mike Walker probably was never head coach material, nor was Doba to be

honest. I will say he had some guys who went on to do some really good stuff. Mike Zimmer has had a great career as an assistant. Andre Patterson. But I bet Leach can say the same thing.

I don't think it's a fair comparison on a lot of different levels. Two completely different eras, where the program was at when they took over, coaching backgrounds, the Pac 10 then vs. the Pac 12 now. Even if you level set and look at Price's first 3 years against Leach I don't know if there is much of a comparison point. I would liken them to each other as coaches in some ways. Similarities with handling the offense and QBs and handing the defense over to the DC. I am not saying either are totally hands off the defense and special teams but obviously offensive minds. I am also sure both ultimately make the recruiting and player management decisions.

I love what Coach Price did at WSU and wish he never left. I love the direction of the program under Leach. He seems comfortably in Pullman and I think will win at WSU. I wasn't sure about Price when he came to WSU or as of year 3 but it worked out great. I still believe it will work out great under Leach as well.

I agree in part...when Price came in I was hopeful he would win

when Leach came in to me it was a certainty. Never did I imagine he would be batting below .330. Did you?

Re: I agree in part...when Price came in I was hopeful he would win

I didn't but it's not like he was left with what Walden and Erickson left Price. That's one of more than a few reasons I can't see the comparison point. I look at the roster and if they can keep the current class somewhat together and have another solid to good overall effort the wins will come.

Those are really fair questions to ask at the end of the 2016 season.

At that point, the sample size is much larger and the advantage Price may have held inheriting Walden/Erickson recruits should be more than offset by the advantage Leach holds in terms of exposure, resources and facilities provided by the new era of TV revenue.

Who knows. Mike Price won 13 games his first 3 years. Leach has won 12 could be 13.

I will say this. If Leach rebuilds the special teams and defense over the next 3 years in the manner he's built the offense. He will without a doubt be heralded as one of our greatest coaches.

And for the record add your favorite coach of all time Paul Wulff he won 5 games his first 3 years,

it all starts with out recruiting your peers, right?... because if you don't... and you continue to stack the best athletes on one side of the ball and/or you aren't signing recruits that are in the upper half athletically, you run the risk of always trying to play catchup with a team full of DIR's.

Save....Price had Walden talent for one year, Erickson was certainly hit

and miss, with more misses than hits. Erickson was a disaster when it came to the oline.

Tron...just a little fact.... Walden is my favorite. Then Price

I like Leach...and Doba may be my favorite person who ever coached at WSU.

So Wulff it does not appear to be in the top four.

Price is our best coach. I believed Leach was our next price. It looked like a similar pattern, but obviously this is not what I expected. Hopefully we can win some games this year, maybe it was a fluke, but no matter what we all lost, and we are going to lose for a long time.

The offense sucks.

I've been saying this time and time again. It is an extremely inefficient offense that racks up a lot of yds between the 20's. Not efficient at all.

We saw that today. We saw that against Nevada, the last two Apple Cups etc.

The offense isn't nearly as good as people think it is.

But in year 4, game 1, we went to the desert and beat a ranked Arizona team, despite Bledsoe trying his best to give the game away. In year 4, game 1, under Leach, we suffered the most embarrassing non-conference loss in 50 years.

What did I say. If Leach rebuilds the defense and special teams... both sucked. We lost... I still stand by that statement. It was correct. The special teams had a muffed punt, and a blocked FG. The defense allowed 233 rushing yards to an FCS school.

The IF did not happen.
