Jalen Hurts is out with an injury, so Minshew started today for the Eagles against the Jets.

At halftime, he’s 14/15 for 188 yards and 2 TDs.

They’ve already said that Hurts is the starter regardless of Minshew’s performance, but looks like he’s making the most of opportunities.

Other teams will be watching him as well.
Good luck, Minshew!

Looks like he’ll finish the game 20/25 for 242 yards and 2 TDs. And with a 33-18 win.

First drive of the 3rd quarter, they chewed up 8:22 and tacked on a FG. Second drive was 6:13 and another FG. Leaned on the run and played ball control with the lead.

Dude is such a bench player. Obviously not talented. /s

Sucks because he's going to get the Nick Foles rap as the 33rd best QB in the league. He's going to need a Kurt Warner type miracle/situation to get his shot, imho.

Don't cry too many tears.
Backup QB in the NFL is literally the BEST JOB IN THE WORLD.
He is young and staying healthy. His talents are very well suited for coming off of the bench with minimal reps. Expectations are always low. And fans always love the backup best (until he starts).
His time will come and hopefully for a competitive team. Maybe it will even work for him in Philly.
Regardless, he is going to be cashing checks from the NFL for a long, long time.

As a broncos fan I respectfully disagree. He’d be starting QB of a division leader right now if Denver’s GM had picked him up instead of 2 yard Teddy.

You proved point. He was drafted as a backup, and despite putting up good-to-great rookie numbers in Jax DESPITE have zero support around him he is still viewed as a backup by league GMs.

Go to the very end of the video clip on the Wazzuwatch home page. Last thing you see is Dillard giving Minshew a hug. Two good Cougs!!

Gotta go back to this after seeing some of the sports talk buzz around Minshew’s day yesterday. I’d put it at about 70/30 for those who say this creates a QB controversy in Philly, versus those who point out that most QBs look pretty good against the Jets.

The Eagles have a bye this week before hosting Washington and the Giants. Hurts is expected to be back to play Washington. Apparently the fine print of the trade for Minshew says the 6th round pick the Eagles gave up turns into a 5th rounder if he plays 50% of the snaps in 3 games. Philly is still in the playoff hunt with 4 games left…if GM could get them there, spending a 5th rounder is a small price to pay.

Turning to the individual…GM is on his rookie contract through 2022 (I thought he came off it this season, which made yesterday a bigger deal). If the Eagles stick to their guns and go back to Hurts, Gardner’s performance yesterday will fall off the radar before he hits the market. He’s “only” making $850k this year, $965 next. Seems like a 3rd year player with a TD:INT ratio near 4 should have more value…especially considering the supporting cast he had for his first 2 seasons.
Maybe the best case is that yesterday improved his trade value…so now the Eagles can shop him in the off-season and get a 3rd/4th rounder from someone who needs a young, relatively cheap and reliable QB (hello, Seahawks). If Philly is all in on Hurts, seems like they’d be better off with a backup whose style matched his a bit better.

I would hope his performance got him back on the radar. In fairness he had a shit preseason which doesn’t help when you are auditioning for the rest of the league. If he keeps playing well, Philly can upgrade their draft pick if they find a suitor who thinks he’s a starter. This Broncos fan knows he’s a day 1 starter in Denver, and considering we got a 2nd and 3rd for an aging Von Miller I’d gladly give up that 3rd to have GM at QB instead of the current choice of turd sandwiches we have.

Up until this point, GMII has been a shining example of a lot of what is wrong with the NFL. JAX had a winner right in front of them, the city loved him, he shined under the harshest conditions, yet a new coach thinks the big shot qb is going to be a slam dunk, because that has worked out sooooooo many times before. I don't have to list the Heisman winners that haven't amounted to jack squat because everyone is already aware.

I'm curious if Seattle would give him a shot if/ when Mr. Ciara decides to jump ship.

Its kind of no longer possible for a GM and/or coach to spend a #1 pick and millions of dollars on a QB, and than admit they picked the wrong guy and bench him when the team is so bad anyway. It had to go the other way, with Minshew starting the season and then replaced by the golden boy when all was lost. He is 1000x better off now.

A guide I know played five years in the NFL in The 90s. Told me along time ago that it was that way when he played. No GM will easily admit they f@cked up until they have no choice. Making the decision too quickly is, essentially, stating that they don’t know what they are doing.

A lot of NFL GMs are clueless clowns. It starts with the owners though who are part of a monopolized fraternity with a barrier to entry. They can make every F up imaginable and they still print money. The business model doesn’t force innovation or creativity. And as much as a disaster my team is, I’ll still tune in every Sunday.
