I guess this is 2 day old news, but I hadn't seen it. Raiders to release Minshew. One article said he has $3.16M Guaranteed for 2025. Not a bad firing bonus, if that is what it becomes. Still only 28, I expect someone to pick him up as a backup.
He's likely to become a back-up for the rest of his career. Which is fine, he'll earn decent money and I suspect will enter into the coaching ranks after he finishes playing.I guess this is 2 day old news, but I hadn't seen it. Raiders to release Minshew. He should be one of the most competent backups in the league. A guy who can go 2-2 or 3-1 when your franchise guy sprains his ankle and is out for a month. He's likely to become a back-up for the rest of his career. and it's been proven (look at Seattle), you need a guy that can step in and win a game or two if QB1 is out. With the longer season, I also think you should make that assumption that you will need your backup to be in at least 2 to 3 games. The Raiders just weren't that good and Pierce seemed in over his head, so this is not all on Minshew. He should be one of the most competent backups in the league. That’s worth $5-6 mill/year probably. Best job in sports outside of pga tour.
