Gardner is heading to Philadelphia to play for the Eagles. Glad to see him get away from the circus in Jacksonville.
With CJ Beathard on a guaranteed contract this was inevitable. Good for him getting out of that mess.Gardner is heading to Philadelphia to play for the Eagles. Glad to see him get away from the circus in Jacksonville.
Dillard may be traded soon enough - he’s struggled badly, lost the starting left tackle competition and is hurt.Reunion w/ Dillard. I’ve always been an Eagles fan so glad to see this go down.
Flacco becomes a cap casualty, perhaps? For a conditional 6th rounder? I think JAX could have cold-called half the teams in the league and gotten more than that.
I'm torn on this. Glad he's out of Jacksonville, but I don't think there's much opportunity for him to see the field in Philly. And, they've got very little invested in him so there's little downside to keeping him well down the depth chart, or even releasing him.
On the plus side, I think the offensive style that Jalen Hurts plays is more consistent with Minshew than the style Lawrence plays...and Joe Flacco has the veteran experience that Jacksonville didn't, and he could be mentor to Hurts and Minshew.
Roster space casualty, maybe, but it looks like Flacco’s contract is fully guaranteed. I didn’t find trigger dates, but they might be on the hook to pay him anyway.Flacco becomes a cap casualty, perhaps?
Hurts' name is very apropos is my prediction, GM will get a chance is my prediction. For a conditional 6th rounder? I think JAX could have cold-called half the teams in the league and gotten more than that.

No they couldn’t. They botched the situation miserably and that’s all they could get. Could have gotten a 2nd/3rd if they dealt him high knowing they were taking Lawrence. Good. Minshew is in a better situation and they blew it costing them draft capital. For a conditional 6th rounder? I think JAX could have cold-called half the teams in the league and gotten more than that.

They should have done it a month ago, or waited another month. Wait for a new starter to not pan out, or for one to be lost to injury...and be right there with a young and charismatic alternative with actual experience. I don't think they would have gotten a 2nd rounder, but a 3/4 should have been realistic. Dealing him now was just Meyer's way of avoiding a QB controversy in a month when Lawrence is 0-4.No they couldn’t. They botched the situation miserably and that’s all they could get. I think Lawrence will be successful and I don’t think there was going to be a QB controversy after the preseason, but they sold as low as they possibly could have on Minshew. Absolutely stupid. In a multi-billion dollar business where it’s critical to maximize your resources with a salary cap, it’s amazing how bad some of these franchises are still managed. They should have done it a month ago, or waited another month. Minshew is the subject of typical NFL prejudice - everyone involved in talent evaluation is invested in making sure that their picks/ predictions are right, even down to proven losers like Blaine Gabbert getting his umpteenth chance (just the example that came to mind, but there are many Gabberts out there) while Minshew, who has SOLID numbers as a starter will continue to get kicked around because they didn't pick him to be successful. The ONLY way Minshew gets his shot now is if injury forces him into a starting role and he Nick Foles his way to a Superbowl, and we've even seen that scenario go sour for Foles (and Flacco). Outside of that, he'll be fighting to make a roster for the next few years and might not make a second contract.I think some of you have romantic views of Minshew's perception around the league. My general read is he is viewed as a solid back-up spot starter type, that isn't garnering anything in the 1st 4 rounds of the draft, peak would have been 5th rounder most likley. Some of this is his limitations, some is he got started in a tough situation and now he has to overcome that. Either way he'll hang around for a nice 7-10 year career (if he wants) and hopefully he gets another chance at extended playing time.
Also, if you think JAX is a bad situation, well it got worse for him with a dumpster fire that is Philly right now. I'd take Jax upside in the next 2-3 years over the mess in Philly. That SB win for the Eagles is a distant memory at this point.
I generally agree except I kinda see Minshew having no problem hanging around this league for - as mentioned above - 7- 10 years. He appears to be the epitome of the spot-starter/backup/fill-in.
