Interesting. A fully guaranteed $3.5 million for 1 year, incentives could make it $5.5 million. To the Colts
I think this telegraphs that Indy isn’t going for a free agent starter. They’re going to try to get their guy in the draft. If he’s not ready, Minshew provides insurance, and a solid locker room presence. And, he’s already familiar with the offense, since the OC is from Philly.Happy for him. At the least, he gets a chance to compete fully for a starting job. Let’s see who they draft or if they go way out and reach for Lamar. Either way. 3.5 mil, I’m just happy for him and his fam.
That’s what I’ve read too. Possibly Richardson who is very unpolished but a freak athlete. He needs a bit to sit by most accounts. Might work out well for all involved.I think this telegraphs that Indy isn’t going for a free agent starter. They’re going to try to get their guy in the draft. I agree with you. And I don’t think that’s out of the question given they signed Minshew. Give him a year, and see what he can do. Trade back, stock up on picks. Maybe draft a mid round QB and look to add FA or high draft qb next year.Yep.
I think Stroud would be the safer fit, assuming the Colts move to the same offense Philly had, but I don’t think he’ll make it past #2. Richardson seems like the next best option, although it’s hard to say whether he’s worth #4.
If I’m the Colts GM, I’m more interested in trading back 5-7 spots, adding picks, and building a competent OL before picking up a QB who’s a project.
That seems like the smart play. They gave up 60 sacks in 2022, 2nd most in the league. They need to address that, or whoever they put under center is going to get their ass kicked in 2023. There’s no point in spending money and a top 4 pick on a QB just to get him beat up. He won’t learn anything, and it might just ruin him.I agree with you. I don't get the "he's not a starter" bash. He's clearly as good or better than the bottom half of the league; in case no one noticed, the league is made up of MOSTLY ok or worse qb's. I realize everyone is trying to get the next generational talent, but since there is a limited supply of those players the rest of the league needs to have someone slinging the ball. There are still a couple of teams looking for a player to simply make a bunch of short and mid-range passes and not turn the ball over - the RB and the D will handle the rest. GM fits that bill, he just hasn't found that team yet.I wouldn’t say it was out of the question Gardner had higher money options but chose the Colts for another chance to get starter tape out there. He his def worth more than 3.5 a year but not many places with a true opening, even if it’s tank mode.

I'm just glad to see him get a chance with a new team. He was going to be buried on the bench in Philly forever.Agree completely. Minshew is going to be a great fit for the right team. Frankly, I think Jacksonville had the potential to be that fit, but they were so obsessed at the chance of getting Trevor Lawrence that he never got a fair shake there. With the way he played in the second half of last season, can't blame them.
There are a lot of guys out there that don't have Minshew's understanding of the game and he needs a team that values that over measurables.
Yes, this. If they draft well they will look like genius material.I think this telegraphs that Indy isn’t going for a free agent starter. They’re going to try to get their guy in the draft. Small correction, Mik- Colts draft 4th, Seahawks draft #5. Colts pick will certainly be interesting.Yeah, if they take a QB in rounds 2,3,4, and trade slightly down for slightly more picks, and then make good picks, and build around Minshew and that round 2,3,4 QB, and pick up 1,2 key Free Agents, then Minshew, Colts, GM, coach, etc, could look like roses, geniuses.
But if they take a Trevor Lawrence type, at pick 5 of first round, instead of building around Minshew and a future QB, then both Minshew and their Trevor Lawrence type, and team, coach, GM, won't look good.
