Missing Borghi is being understated

I love the toughness that McIntosh runs with, but Borghi’s quickness on the read option, and his skill as a pass catcher is really missed. We would have put up 40+ with him in there yesterday. Still might not have been enough to win, but he’s a difference maker.

Borghi is indeed a difference maker, and if we had both he and Deon available, the "Mr. Inside" / "Mr. Outside" option would be available. And the use of the word "option" in that sentence is not accidental. An athlete with Borghi's skill set is made for this offense. Deon is close to being the top half of the league's halfbacks (to use an out of date term). But Borghi is one of the top 3. We have not had this sort of combination since the RPM days (maybe now we have the dBM offense if everybody is on the field?), and you know that Rolo's ability to create would be greater if he were available. I would not even be surprised to see a few plays with Deon at RB and Max in slot. You have to find a way to have your best players on the field as often as possible, and Deon is showing that, while he may not be quite a Max, he is a better RB than some of the other PAC teams are fortunate to have.

Who knows if Max will be on the field next Saturday? Rolo would not willingly reveal that in advance, regardless of the answer, so we'll just have to wait and see. Since this year does not count toward eligibility time, absolutely anything is possible from a roster standpoint.

Was Calvin out too? Missing those two kids hurts. Injuries and depth are part of the game, it is tougher for some schools to win without their top talent than others.

It will be interesting to see the offense with MB in it. Running game gets better, take some pressure off the QB....

Calvin Jackson Jr was out too. Hopping he is back sooner rather than later. FWIW my “source” inside the program said Max injured a vertebrate early in camp, tried to play through it, then an XRay on game week showed it was fractured. Out at least 5 weeks. I fear that we have seen the last of him in a WSU uniform.
The sheer number of injuries this team is working through is really staggering.

He doesnt have the film to leave early. Not imo. If he had 1500 yards *on the ground* last year, I could see him leaving early. I just looked at his stats... he has 199 carries in two years. That’s not enough.

Max Borghi turning pro after fracturing a vertebrae and missing an entire season would be draft suicide. I would be shocked if he declares under those circumstances.

I heard the same from a source I consider reliable.

This season, if I was a top end player like Borghi, for any injury that was 3+ weeks, I’d consider it season ending and prep for next year. No point in getting re-injured in a scrimmage season and having lingering effects when it matters.

Not having a reliable second back will hurt the Cougs down the road. If Max isn't coming back this year then Bazil needs to get more snaps. A single back will get worn down during the season.
Calvin Jackson was missing and I don't recall T. Brown playing defense yesterday.

This is still a young team under a new coach and system. It will take a year or two before you see what this team is all about. So far they have shown promise. It's about translating that into wins.
Oregon, from what I've seen so far, is the best team in the Pac. Cougs should be in all games the rest of the way.

I think Will Rodgers didn't play as well....and he's one of the better ones, too. Again, I can't argue that the Cougs would've won with everyone healthy (Ducks missing at least 2 of their top TEs and a couple of defensive starters, I think), but a team with little depth to begin with like WSU needs all the firepower it can get to stay in a game with the big boys.

Glad Cougar

Any way you cut it, we need two backs that can take the field this year. It’s a big ask of Mac to never get a play off.

Oregon has four stars backing up their five stars
Glad Cougar

My same source told me Willy Rodgers suffered a torn meniscus. Really unfortunate injury situation this year.

Brown got a few snaps on defense and played special teams. Kid is a great athlete with a bunch of upside. From what I saw on his few plays yesterday he is still behind mentally. Being out of position has been the normal so far in his young career.

Have to feel for him. Got no coaching last year and played three different positions are the year went on. I expect the new staff to turn him into something pretty special at MLB.
