Money.....money.....money!

Sorry for the ignorant question, but... Do all draftees sign a contract before fall camp? In other words - does this mean he's guaranteed a slot on the team?

Ed has it right.....the only thing guaranteed is the signing bonus.

EDIT: according to what I found, players drafted in the first round get four years guaranteed, 2nd round is two years guaranteed, anything past that is signing bonus only.

Fixed your post (sorry couldn't resist. See other thread). :p

I googled around, and it looks like these 4 year rookie contracts ARE guaranteed. Money-wise, anyway. I don't think that guarantees a slot though - teams must eat some dough every year on drafted rookies who don't pan out. I guess?

I think I read GM gets $547-ish in year one. Would like to hear from someone who has this down (a BB'er for sure).

This post is worthless without a link to the actual article. C'mon man!

Edit: Well never mind the above. Ed was right. Did I mention that Ed was right? :D

Apparently only the $190 signing bonus is all that is guaranteed.

Contract isn’t guaranteed, but note also that they released Cody Kessler, so the battle for the backup spot is Minshew and two other guys with no pro experience. I may be slightly biased, but I think he wins on attitude alone.

Plus, they might sell more tickets to the ladies with him on the roster.

I agree that Minshew's chances look incredibly good right now. I'll be astonished if he gets cut. He's obviously got a competitive fire and wants to be on the field, but I also think that his experiences in life have made him the perfect backup QB for the next 3-4 years. He's smart, wants to be a coach and just appreciates the opportunity to be there. I can see Minshew being that guy who's talking to the starting QB and WR's and giving them tips on what he's seeing on the field.

And at the same time not being particularly impressed by a super bowl MVP
