First to keep things in perspective, Nicholls is pretty bad. They live and die with the 3, and only a couple guys are decent shooters.

I thought the d looked really good except for short periods beginning the game and midway through the second half.

Individually, Elleby starts and contributes from Day 1. I dont think he will ever be much of a shooter, but he is a gamer with great athleticism. Kunc has huge upside. Not so much getting stronger, as learning what works and doesnt work at the D1 level for him. He is the best shooter of the new guys.

Wade could be the biggest sleeper of the bunch. Best way to describe him is what we thought Bernstein would be. Biggest problem will be keeping out of foul trouble. The guy is strong and fast at 6-7.

Franks looks way better. Not just showing more athleticism, but a real leader on the floor.

Ali is still figuring it out, but he is quick and a good ball handler who gets after it on D. Decent shooter, but not as good as I thought he might be. Robinson didnt get a lot of minutes. In fact Daniels ran the point about 10 minutes off and on.

All in all, it may take longer than people think for this team to jell, but franks and Daniels might carry them to wins in the interim

Apparently Ali was coming off some sort of injury (according to brandx) so maybe he wasn't totally at full speed. I liked that he dropped his first 3 (and shot) at the 9 minutes into the game. Agree though that he is still figuring it out as you would expect all the new guys. Wade was physical. Too physical at times but good to see overall.

One game, long way to go. Need someones to step into more scoring whether it's Ali, Daniels, Chidom, etc.

Not sure we are as good a 3 point shooting team as I hoped. Franks snd Daniels are money, but after that only Kunc looks like he has good mechanics. Skaggs poor shot selection and other negatives offset a lot of his value as instant offense. I will give Ali a pass until he is 100%.

What’s wrong with Ali? Had not heard of an injury. Personally I was less than impressed.

Sounds as if Ali isn't 100 percent, so he clearly has more upside at PG. Elleby, Kunc, and Wade are significant upgrades from a year ago. What Elleby lacks as a shooter he makes up as a passer and defender, especially in the 2-3 and 1-3-1 zones out front. I still don't see us as an upper division team, but I don't see a bottom dweller either. Ernie might have bought himself another year.

Hopefully Ali is not injured or hampered by something long term. I really saw nothing from him yesterday that said PAC 12 ready. I think this team has the potential to be deeper on the bench which is always good if someone is having an off day to have more options. Starting 5 I would say is weaker based solely on missing Flynn at point. Unless Robinson is also not 100 percent it appears he is down the line a ways in the rotation.
I liked the bigger line up with Daniels running the point and think we will see more of it, the length seemed give them trouble and the four bigs with Daniels were skilled enough to easily handle their pressure.

I think that Flynn had his pluses and minuses. He was a terrible defender and he is more of a scorer than a passer and play maker. I believe that the overall play at that position may be an improvement over Flynn The team from what little i saw passes and shares the ball more with Ali in the game. I really was not sad to see Flynn depart to be honest

Flynn and Franks were an interesting pair ladt year. They statistically dominated scoring but were at opposite ends. Flynn wanted to take over every game, but bad decisions probably cost us as many as great play won. Franks on the other hand had a lot of empty stats other than the Cal game. Many games he disappeared for key stretches, then put up 5 or 10 points during garbage time.

Flynn is gone, and Franks looked dominating from the opening tip. He looked like he could have scored 45, but seemed to be getting the new guys involved, and picked his spots to score

Frank’s footwork and ability to work both hands around the hoop were very impressive.
Sense there’s gonna plenty of entertaining games when the 3’s are dropping and others when it’s a brick show. They are athletic and long, it will be interesting to see how the PAC12 teams attack the zone. Good size, athletic, w/long arms sets that zone up nicely, but concerned about our ability to rebound out of it.

Something seemed up with Ali with Daniels taking the point to start the second half. On Daniels, he was doing more with the ball so that's a good sign.

Ali's first shot was deep into the game (believe 11 minute mark) when he hit a 3 and then his next couple were off. I'm hoping he just needs some time especially if he wasn't quite 100% but he's definitely not a shoot first point guard.

I listened to the last part of the radio broadcast and as it was about to go off the air Chazanow said Ali had come back out to put up shots. I don't remember seeing that very often.

After watching the game again on the TV I was slightly more impressed with Ali and Wade also.

I liked seeing Franks, Chidom, and Wade in the same lineup. Franks ball handling seems to have improved a bit as well. Chidom and Wade need to see the floor a lot the next 2 months.

It will take time to sort things out. But the NMSU game against a tough opponent on the road will show what weaknesses the team has. I do not expect the team to win that game.

Wade was downright explosive. Also watched in practice and he has a nice shooting touch. Ali didnt knock my sox off, but I wasnt disappointed either. Ernie really r a ved anout him on the post game
