Morris and Dickert flip Dollar

This is a nice recruiting win for Dickert and the staff. Whether you agree or disagree with the decision to reemphasize the TE position, if you're going to do it, you have to go all in and get impact players.

This kid is nearly 6'6 / 230lbs already, and it's not just his offer sheet, but the types of programs who have offered him that are impressive. Michigan, Arkansas, Penn State, Michigan State, Iowa State. Tough, hard nosed programs.

Split out Stribling and Ollie, put Bell and Hobert in the slot and release this kid underneath. With JDL and his ability to play fake, this could be a huge addition. Certainly a red zone and short yardage difference maker.

Gonna be fun to see how this develops.

I was hoping for some surprises and exciting news this week during signing period. I think most approved of how Dickert handled the team after taking over, the two questions were new coaches and recruiting, on paper these new coaches look real good, so we can check that box. This week we find out about recruiting, this is a big get, as most were not expecting much, they still have a long ways to go, but if recruiting is ahead of schedule, it's most likely to get better. Great work coaches! They key to any class is balance, and we probably won't have the complete picture until February.

Nonsense…waste of a scholly here, should be repurposing a third string defensive end.

He needs more weight to make any blocks. 220-230 isn’t gonna get it done. He doesnt have the speed to run away from anyone in the Pac 12. Not without blocks downfield anyways. He is a post up player. Easy pitch and catch throws over the middle. Make some redzone grabs with his height.

So yes, I’d have moved other players around.

It's too bad that it's not possible for players to put on any weight when they go to college...........

The Oregonian/Oregon Live made a big splash when he verballed to the Ducks months ago (as they do with all UO recruits). But they did note he was a 4-star, top 10 in the nation TE who the Ducks beat out several good programs for. Sounded like he had narrowed it down earlier to UO and Nebraska...had no clue WSU was in on him after the UO coaching change.

I know Nebraska is a shell of what it once was, but the Ducks normally only go after highly rated national recruits, and they do have a good track record with tight ends.

Glad Cougar

Then, when the repurposed DE dropped a 2-point conversion ...

"If you are going to have a position, you have to dedicate money to it. You can't say you'll have a TE on the field making plays and screw around with a third-string defensive end. You need players who can play the position. All these coaches should be fired."

It's not a waste of a scholly to take 1 kid like this a year, as long as get 4 good OL a year, and 5 OL every 4,5,6,7 years.

Also you don't have to take a kids like this, this good every year, as long as use JC/Transfer Portal/Grad Transfer, etc.

Also as a 6-6 230 STUD, even tho he is LIKELY to be a TE, IF he doesn't work out at TE, MAYBE he can be H Back, Big WR, OL, DE, Middle Linebacker, RB, etc.

So you use, develop this kid into your starting TE, and you either use Transfer or convert a buried other position into #1 back up, or emergency TE to your #1 back up TE.

Also what's the point of having 7 additional Transfers that you can take in addition to the previous rule of just 25 scholly's, if your not going to use 1 of the 7 transfer for things like TE(Not saying TE has to be transfer)

Basically you now get 32 schollies instead of the old 25 scholly limit.

What's the point of having 32 schollies, if not gona use them for SOMETHING LIKE a TE, etc.

It's a waste of the 7 extra schollies to get either 6 OL or extras at other positions.

When you have more then enough at other positions and you still have 2,3,4, schollies left out of 32, are you gonna say "Nope not gona spend the last 1,2,3 scholly's out of 32 schollies on a TE, because even tho have way more then enough schollies at the other positions, because have 32 schollies, instead of the old 25 schollies, Biggs and company said it would waste of a scholly to get a TE".

It's not a waste of a scholly. You can still get 5 OL instead of 4 OL, because of the scholly increase to 32, from 25..

And even if you go 4 OL that is enough.

This is not 1970 to 2003 ish, and Poor Ole Little Ole WSU where had to get 5 OL, 25 schollies, instead of today's 32.

Better coaches, better program, better recruiting, better recruit evaluation, better development, bigger name, innocence lost, big boy football, more money, more schollies(32 instead of 25), that makes it so that 4 OL is all that needed.

A TE is not a waste of a scholly anymore, like it might have been a long time ago.

Live in the present, don't live in past, get understand the logic, facts. Don't be oh woe is poor Ole Little Ole WSU, step away from the ledge, etc.

Right now he is a tall and slow inside receiver. If he can get close to 250 with good quality pounds, then we are talking a TE. His frame appears to be right for the added muscle, but I have no idea what college weight training will do. That part of OK usually has pretty good weight programs at the HS level, so I admit that I'm surprised that he only weighs 220...unless a lot of his growth came in the last 1-2 years. We'll know a lot more in a year.

So now it might be a case of WDWHA for UO. An analysis from Duck beat writer Andrew Nemec of the Oregonian:

While Oregon’s initial wave of decommitments — a group that included five-star offensive tackle Kelvin Banks, four-star offensive lineman Cameron Williams and four-star cornerback Jahlil Florence — stung the program, it seems a second wave could be coming.

This one, however, may stem from new coach Dan Lanning evaluating the needs of the program and prioritizing his scholarship resources differently than departed coach Mario Cristobal.

When a new coach is hired, he frequently reevaluates the current recruiting class to pick and choose the “right players” for his system.

A perfect example of that transition has come over the past few weeks at USC, where the Trojans have suddenly experienced a flurry of decommitments from some of their lower-rated pledges.

Oregon is loaded with young talent at the tight end position, so Dollar’s departure may be best of all involved, as he likely has a clearer path to playing time in Pullman.

--------
Even if it's true that Lanning dropped Dollar (he mysteriously has gone from the #10 rated TE in the country when he committed to UO in September to #29 now that he's going to Pullman), I don't really care. If the Cougs are going to use a TE, this is a good one to get.

Glad Cougar

Well, with a new coach and a yet unseen offensive system, we don't know how we plan to use him. But if we are signing athletes, over position, for the first time in a while, he provides flexibility. You can't coach 6'6" 230 pounds, who can run well. Gary Holmes and Keith Millard played TE in high school. It not like we have hit it out of the park recruiting quality DLs over the last decade. Who knows?

"Gary Holmes North Thurston Sr. 6-6 250 TE. Comment: Street & Smith top 50." He packed on 70 pounds before he was done.

At 6-6 230, that can run well he can put on 13 pounds of muscle to 243 and either be a solid TE, BIG Jump ball, POSSESSION inside Slot WR, H Back, DE, Middle LB, etc.

There is almost always a spot somewhere for a 4 STAR 6-6 230 STUD that MICHIGAN, others, etc wanted.

I like the pickup. I am hoping the quiet before signing day explodes with lots of positive surprises tomorrow.
Down the road if Dollar doesn't pan out as a TE, do TE's make good DE's?

Nemec bleeds green and yellow, and according to him every duck recruit is the next potential 1st round draft pick. His homerism makes Walden look like BiggsCoog.

Relax Mik, was poking fun at Biggs…

6’6” 243 at middle linebacker???? Nope.

6’7” 220 LB linebacker Ted ‘Stork’ Hendricks would disagree.
The 'Stork' was a super good outside linebacker. Who was the tallest great middle linebacker? Name me a better and taller middle linebacker the 6-4 Jack Lambert? Ted was a great outside linebacker because he was an outstanding athlete who escaped major injuries. He was God given, extremely lucky and very smart.

Did I say this fella was gonna be a middle backer. I simply pointed out that in fact there was a 6’ 7” LB who had a rather successful career. Haven’t watched his tape and wouldn’t know WTF to look for like WSU’s own Biggs Kiper McShay.

Admitting you’re dumb is the first step to recovery. Good for you.

All American TE from University of Georgia, 6'4 205 in HS. This year 6'4 230.

Let's not talk about this dude not being big enough. That is just dumb.

WSU couches pulled a coup and got a helluva a player.

Listen Chuckles, I actually spend my days working which allows me to be a WSU contributor and not some derelict gasbag.
If you spent more time cuttin out paper dolls or whatever it is you sell at carnivals you just might be able to afford bus fare to El Paso.

When found to not know what you’re talking about, call the person names, make fun of them, something, anything to redirect attention away from the fact you don’t know what you’re talking about.

If you don’t like what I have to write, click ignore and move on with your day. I sure your boss will be happy.

Flat they can . But with all that is done from 5th grade on, the Millard’s Eric wikliams , utleys etc if putting in 60 pounds . Plus with the portal are those kids sticking around to take two years to get physically ready for power 5. It is a whole new dynamic.

Great get flipping a recruit from a power program like Oklahoma! He will put up numbers in this new hybrid Air Raid scheme that coach Morris will install! GO Cougs!
