Played ball in HS with a kid who transferred from Orofino. First I ever heard of the Maniacs. Still love the name! Surprised it hasn't been changed by now but it is Idaho after all!
Always thought the Bombers was pretty cool as well.
Was just chatting w/an Orofino grad in Sunday and he indicated it surfaces periodically, but eventually goes away.
I recall seeing the name Maniacs on an excursion to Orofino back in the late 70’s as it’s one of those names you just don’t forget.
I’ve still got my Grays Harbor Chokers b’ball gear, which isn’t offensive (who knows it probably is to some keyboard warrior), but certainly a bit different.

I really like the name for Clark Fork HS, the Wampus Cats. It’s unique and pretty cool. When one walks into the gym at Orofino HS, they have a huge Maniac on the wall of the gym, it’s not very complementary since Orofino houses the State Hospital-north (psych. Unit). I toured it years ago and it was stark and scary.
Way too patriarchal. Needs more Jill or whatever the neutral version of Jack/Jill might be. Xill?
