Look what my wife received. We're going to the game on Saturday, but what's funny is she just received this email (from the Clemson Alumni Assoc.) asking if she would be interested waving the Clemson flag! She's really a COUG, but holds a Master's Degree from the Tigers.

"For the past 82 weeks of college football Clemson has had a presence at ESPN's College GameDay. This week we are looking for a few dedicated Tiger faithful to help us keep the tradition.

If you are chosen, a representative of the alumni association will contact you to discuss the details further.
Thanks in advance and Go Tigers!"

That’s hilarious. The tables have turned! Now schools are desperately trying to be seen on gameday in PULLMAN.

I'm thinking money could be made. Schools will be knocking on WSU frat and apartment doors offering $$ if someone will wave their flag.

What's amazing is all of these people around the country are scrambling to find hotels. They're looking at Colfax, Lewiston, etc. There's hotels up in Spokane, but they're clueless about the Palouse.

I assume the Gameday guys have their own busses to sleep in?

DEREK VOLNER, MANAGER OF ESPN communications, tells Loyal Coug that GameDay will be bringing a staff of about 75 people to Pullman along with the GameDay bus and approximately three to five long-haul trucks. They're heading West from this past weekend's stop in Ann Arbor.

Well I am an opportunist. I will be offering to place any school (except UW) logo on a single business card around the nipple for 50k a piece. Wire must clear before Saturday no refunds.

Did the email come from the alumni association? Interesting, if so. As we know, WSU's effort has been through a separate booster club.

Years ago, back in my days on Brand X, someone had the awesome idea that if Game Day ever came to Pullman we should make a place for every school WSU has flown Ol' Crimson to come and wave theirs.

Tom Pounds, if you're reading this.....something to consider, (if you haven't already): When you retire, consider transitioning the Ol' Crimson responsibilities to the Alumni Association.
  • 1. Expenses: They'll raise it. Its entirely possible they have it in their current budget.
  • 2. It's a perfect fit for this type of project.
  • 3. It occurred to me that since the Clemson Alumni Association is managing their flag, why can't your org transition this and offload these responsibilities to the alumni association when you retire?

Excellent suggestions. Ol Crimson could fall as a special department in the alumni association and really help streamline the stress. The more Cougs work together and become more efficient the better.

Plus Tom doesn't have to worry about the expenses, the logistics, the miss-appropriate of donation funds, co-mingling of donation funds, possible legal fees, CPA expenses, and filing with the IRS every year. Let the alumni association take control. It's really a perfect fit.

If I recall correctly, he’s pretty much stepped away. His wife passed away a few years ago.
