at home..
Virginia went 8 minutes at one point without scoring.
That is fine(ish) when you win, but some kind of torture when you lose.
Is it possible that TB could be on the hot seat at some point, even with a National Championship?
The "system" was made for Wisconsin and perfect for WSU, but never made sense to me for Virginia, given their resources and proximity to elite talent.

Bennett is probably safe, unless something extra happens like what happened to Ed Orgeron.

I'll tell you who may not be safe, MIke Hopkins at UW. The Huskies lost to Northern Illinois at home last night (also the Huskies). Not a great way to start the season as NIU was 3-16 last year.

I was surprised they kept him after last year.

Seemed like all the players they replaced are a better fit for the defense. They don’t have anyone that can consistently score yet. Offense looked horrible.

I turned their game on at half of the women’s game and just laughed. Hopkins hasn’t won with his own players yet. Blamed the players for last year. I didn’t like that too much even if he had a point. It’s early but they have a lot of work to do.

Can UW fire football and men’s hoops the same year? They still owe Hop a decent chunk of change after this year.

UW, is a ABSOLUTE MESS. After Hopkins 1st good year, he had a semi bad, semi mediocre year, followed by the 5 win year last year. It looks like UW will only win about 6 to 11 games this year. When that happens. Hopkins will either be on EXTREME HOT SEAT or fired. He should be fired, but UW semi might semi probably keep him on hot seat 1 more year, and then fire him, because of the buy out, and also because might not want to fire 2 coaches, football, bball at the same time.

If Hopkins stays on hotseat after this year, that would likely be 4 straight bad 5 to 10 win years for UW. Add to that WSU destroying UW in games, and going to NCAA, NIT, and I think that will eventually lead to Smith, WSU, getting, taking the best westside recruits away from UW, as I cant imagine 3.5 star, 4 star, 4.5 star recruits wanting to be part of UW's messy crapstorm.

Instead they will 1st goto Gonzaga, then Oregon, then WSU gets any left overs, if any, and UW gets nothing.

If that is wrong, and if 3.5, 4, 4.5 stars still stupidly goto UW, they will deserve what they get, which will be to suffer, languish on a 5 to 10 win team.

Never seen a coach do as little with as much as Hopkins has. with all the 4.5 stars, he has been getting, he should be getting to at least the NIT every year at minimum. That he is not doing that and only winning 5 games with that talent is extremely bad, and fire worthy.

Hope he is not fired and stays at UW for 1,2,3 more years.

Many Husky fans are expressing their hope that Hopkins is fired and that UW steals Kyle Smith away from WSU, like they did with Marv Harshman a long time ago. Makes me smile.

If they had a competent AD it just might be possible. UW is seems to be steering more towards apathy in relation to its sports programs. The only sports that are even relevant there, right now, are their Volleyball and Softball teams.

No its not possible because even if UW had the BEST AD, etc, Kyle Smith wouldnt leave after only 3,4,5 seasons, and not coach his Best ever at WSU recruiting class, and turn down the the extreme high likelyhood of going to at least the 2nd round of NCAA, and would not want to turn around UW's ultimate mess, and he loves Pullman, and so does his wife and family, and his Wife is from central WA, coug country, and is, has been a coug fan her whole life, and she doesnt like UW.

There is ZERO chance that Smith would ever coach at UW.

The fans can hope all they want, but its not happening.

Their men's soccer team is ranked 3rd in the country. The Sounders academy places many players at the uw.

Clearly you were wrong in what never made sense to you. Compare Virginias success with Bennett to previous 15 years before he got there. It’s not just the ncaa title. It is multiple ACC championships. He makes sense anywhere. Virginia would Be stupid to overreact to one bad game or even a down season or two (Which they haven’t had yet).

Well I could definitely be wrong, and I agree that UVA is pretty much alway going to get 20 wins and be a tough out as long as TB is there. However, at some point that might not be enough. I think UVA wants to be the next Duke or UNC, not the next Wisconsin. Its just that when they lose, it is so ugly. When they became the first #1 to lose to a #16, they lost to UMBC by 20 points. Coming off of the NT they lost the next year to Ohio in the first round when nobody could imagine it could happen again. They lost at home to Navy by 8, and only scored 58. In between, they have had some huge wins. Maybe I'm way off base, but I for one believe UVA could recruit elite talent, play up tempo, and still compete for the ACC title.

In looking at his record again, he has four 30 win seasons at Virgina. He finished 1st in the ACC five times, and 2nd two others. Plus, we all know he has won a National Championship. This is now his 13th year at Virginia. He is not going anywhere.

OK- since I started this thread, and since two former WSU coaches were going head-to-head, I decided to keep and eye on Houston vs, Virginia. I'm sorry, but it was pretty much unwatchable. Virginia is both boring and bad. The game was essentially over at the half with Virginia trailing 23-36. Nobody in the gym thought they could come back, and they were right, as UVA was held below 40 points until late in the game.

I know TB won the NT a couple of years ago, but so did Ed Orgeron, and he didn't make it through the season. Two of the last 3 years UVA has been an easy out in the first round of the NCAA, and this year I doubt they even make the Tournament. I'm not saying TB gets fired, but I could see a mutual decision for him to move on. Students and alumni have short memories, and success leads to higher expectations.

Watched the first part of the game and could see it wasn't going to be much of one. Their class is ranked #3 in the ACC and #11 overall (per brandx). That probably provides some patience. He deserves some but agree on short memories.

Pretty sure Tony Bennett's seat is cold as ice.
