Neon Deion to Colorado?

Deion would fall flat unless CO comes up with a pile of NIL money. I think he might do well if he has a big enough check book.

Sanders would bring immediate cache to Colorado. He'd pull in some 5* recruits and kill it with the transfer portal. The problem with a celebrity hire like this would be the sustainability factor. There's no way someone like Sanders is going to commit to more than a few years in Colorado due to cold weather and geography, and as soon as he leaves, the foundation will crumble, as that foundation will be based solely on Deion's ability to attract elite athletes.

Replacing quality head coaches is always a crapshoot, but it will be next to impossible to replace Deion. There would be an immediate drop off, as in 60% of the roster transfers out when he leaves.

Agree. Best case scenario, Colorado is a lily pad on his way to something bigger. Nobody ambitious like Deion stops at CU.

Another thing as someone who lives here: the state of CO (esp Boulder area) ain't redblooded anymore; the college and staff population are entirely transient, there is no longer any meaningful youth football tradition like there is in the South, and even the "locals" are all California bluebloods or transplants who don't care about football. And there is no Nike "flash" or recent program success to draw upon. CU has become Stanford without the academics OR the athletics. It's going to take a LOT to turn this program around.

You mean CU has become Furd without the brand name? The academics are essentially the same. It's all about the brand.

Not even that. Furd is the #3 ranked college (US News & World Report) and CU is #97. So you have no academics, no athletics, no fans, and increasingly no prestige or pedigree amid a climate of declining enrollment, declining youth football participation etc. Things could get pretty dire for unis which have literally no claim to fame.

Uh....they do have one claim to fame!

Boulder received exposure from the # 1 Hit Single for 12 weeks in a row in Billboards Hot 100.

Closer by The Chainsmokers.

The smash hit single put Boulder on the worldwide map, big time.

Wait, there's more!

"Closer" is currently the sixth most streamed song on Spotify. In April 2021, "Closer" surpassed 2 billion streams on Spotify, making it the sixth song to do so.

I think he could do very well. College coaches any more are CEOs/general managers. If he puts together a good staff he will recruit and find $ imo. Boulder is an awesome and unique town. Right approach can easily get top 25 classes. just let your coaches coach.

If the entire staff can't identify 3 stars that turn into 4 stars....GOOD LUCK to Coach Sanders! He's a name at this point.

Already got the number 1 receiver in the country thinking about decommitting from Ohio State. He just needs to be a talent agent and CEO. Hire a good staff and let the coaches coach, and CU will be wrecking the league.

If he has 2 seasons over .500 he'll get poached by a better P5 immediately.

CU just has to know they're renting Deion, not buying him.
Chip, I think 3-4 years, because it will take that long. That makes it a lease instead of a rental.
