A proven guy who has built his success at places that have a lot in common with WSU. When I graduated in '80, WSU had the biggest on campus intramural sports participation in the nation, and Oklahoma State was second. Of course, we all know Corvallis and our similarities with that school. Marty is used to recruiting to a college town and has been on staffs that have achieved and even gotten through the regionals...hard to find any fault with this choice. And I'm sure he was very happy to have a chance to return to the PNW.

How old is this guy? I,obviously am not a baseball fan. However,i wonder if this guy has seen his better days.

Do you mean the 2 OSU national championships? He's what...43? Is that over the hill? How old are you El? Maybe they outta retire you.

He is also known as a tireless recruiter and was responsible for top 10 classes at both OSU's.

El is just being El, uninformed as usual and yet talking...

Excellent comeback. If we aren't worried about 60-year old Ernie Kent, why worry about 43-year Marty Lees?

Great hire. Thank you Bill Moos.
Not to mention that Dick Bennett laid the foundation for the great teams of Tony Bennett. Also, Pete Carroll was one of the oldest coaches in the NFL when he took over the Seahawks.

Here are a few names to kick around regarding possible assistant coaches. New Mexico assistant coach Dan Spencer. He was on the Oregon State staff with Lees. Also, Utah assistant Jason Hawkins.

Over on BX, there was an interview with Lees. In it he says that he already offered a position to a coach and he is waiting to hear back from him. Not surprising, as I am sure he has already thought about coaches he would want when he got a head coaching job. I think it may be Dan Spencer that he offered. Spencer was pitching coach with the Beavers when they won the two national titles. He did a fabulous job there. He left to become head coach at Texas Tech (appears he was at TT for two years when Mike Leach was there). While his teams at TT were not good, his pitching staffs were.

I think Gregg Swenson has done a very good job as pitching coach with the Cougars. I think Spencer would be an upgrade.

If it is Spencer, WSU would have 2/3 of the coaches from OSU's two titles in Lees and Swenson. Now, if he could convince Pat Casey to step down from OSU and take an assistant position with WSU....:D

Pretty exciting, nice job by Moos getting Lees. Great hire on paper. Feels like this may have been in the works for some time.

As expected, Dan Spencer is joining Coach Lees as the new pitching coach. Good hire and I believe this is an upgrade over Coach Swenson.

"In his first official move since being named Washington State’s head baseball coach, Marty Lees named Dan Spencer as the Cougars’ associate head coach, it was announced Thursday. Spencer will oversee WSU’s pitching staff and reunites with Lees..."
