New candidate emerges in Florida State coaching search

Hypothetically, if Primetime delegated the day to day coaching responsibilities to a staff of coaches who’s assistant coaching staff payroll is significantly higher than at other programs, he could be free to market himself to recruits and work with the team in his areas of expertise and as a motivational figurehead.

Do I see it working? No, but can you imagine the recruiting uptick?

Team discipline will be off the charts!

Every kid would speak to him. But what is he gonna coach??? FSU shouldnt need a gimmick to talk to kids. They need a guy thats done it before.

Thing of it is, FSU doesn't really have a recruiting problem--Willie dropped off a bit from Jimbo Fisher's classes (always in the top 5, probably closer to top 3), but he's still managed to pull in about >50% 4-5 star talent, and has a top 10 and top 20 class there. He inherited the horses and/or brought them in, he just couldn't do anything with them. I highly doubt Neon has the experience or connections to run a football program of FSU's stature.

Has some things in common with Ed O. Probably has some maturity yet to develop, but an intriguing candidate. Would need a couple of X's and O's coordinators, but certainly he could be a recruiting, alum and media plus. Interesting...

I'm not saying it's a good idea, but when I look at some of these programs who repeatedly muck things up, maybe a completely coaching hierarchy should be established.

Head coach celebrity figurehead ($5M/year) Handles recruiting, boosters, PR
Offensive coordinator / Assistant head coach ($3M/year)
Defensive coordinator ($2M/year)

Head coach is nothing more than a CEO. The coordinators run the team and build their resumes.

Gottlieb was saying, on his show, it's an NCAA requirement for head coaches to have a college degree and Deion does not have one.

I seem to remember that the lack of degree is what kept Mike Levenseller from consideration for any head coaching job, too. I wonder what Levy is doing these days?
