New Commit: D'jimon Jones from Federal Way

WR or CB either way it's great to see a talented player like him recognize the opportunity at WSU. He has tremendous potential I'm excited to watch him.

One thing about Jones is that he is a three sport athlete, as he played football, basketball and track. In this age of specialization, it is nice that he is enjoying the high school athletic experience more than most athletes nowadays.

I think it will make him more well rounded. It helped him become a better athlete. Plus, I think because of this, once he does specialize in football, he will have a chance to improve more than most players.

I can't find it, but I believe CML has mentioned he looks for players that aren't "specialized". He thinks multiple sport players have a better mental ability to see things, to change and adapt...

I would not surprise me, as I have heard from more than one coach that they like players to play multiple sports, as it makes them more well rounded.

Unfortunately, some players (and parents) think their road to a scholarship is through getting as good as they can at one sport. Plus, there are a lot of coaches that tell players that if they want to be on the team, they can only play their sport or else the player cannot be on the team.

Had not heard this about seeking non-specialized players but it does not surprise me. He has mentioned in the past that he likes those with a background in soccer since it requires the individual to keep track of the entire field of play not just what is immediately in front of them.

I was happy to see him commit, and he seemed happy to be able to do so. Off to a good start, and it will be nice to have an in state kid to start helping in the recruiting of others.

One thing that may turn out to be true is that Eric Mele is a much better recruiter for the state than previous coaches.
