Being reported that Jim Leavitt is one of 3 finalists for CU job. Also, the AD at CU is leaning strongly to a defensive-minded hire and that elevates Leavitt to #l status.

I’ve heard that Vanderbilt’s Derek Mason is who they really want. He has a lot of west coast ties.

Leavitt makes sense, but I think he wants the K State job

This. The only problem is that Lake is pretty bad at self-promotion, and it is possible that the CU AD doesn't know that he is available.
He is more than bad he makes himself look like an ass. He’s gonna have to take the FCS route with his immaturity if he wants to be a HC. You are basically a CEO when you are running a P5 program.

Well...some say Leach looks like an a$$...

(I like his style)

I don’t know what all FCS programs are paying, but the highest paid coaches in the Big Sky might (with incentives) be paid one-third what he is making. And that’s without considering how much his pay has been increasing and might continue to increase. Lots of jobs will come open in the Power 5 over the next two or three years. He won’t be eating Rice-a-Roni for dinner while he waits.

It's redundant to call him an ass, or say that he's like an ass. He's a Husky, which includes ass-ness by definition. Just sayin'

I've talked to a few mutts this week who surprised me when they said the U-dub was lucky the Perfect Storm blew in to hamper the Minshew-version of the Air Raid. A bit of irony there.

Nobody claimed he wasn’t doing well financially, but if he wants to take a step forward and be a P5 head coach he may need to

yup same thing today in a business meeting. Jack Husky who went to Whitworth says...I was pretty sure you guys were gonna kick our ass. Thank god for that snow storm.

I don’t see a guy taking a 700-800k paycut to coach at a lower level of football when someone from the Power 5 will certainly hire him as their head coach within the next three years at the most.

I would love to see Lake be hired as head coach of the Buffaloes. I want to hear what he says after WSU carves up his defense when he doesn't have several first and second round draft picks playing defense for him.

Really not arguing about the guy's coaching ability . He appears to be a good recruiter and coordinator.

But you are far undershooting what some of these non-P5 coaches make at least in Texas. Heck the Head Coach at UNT (CUSA conference) is knocking down $1.3 million, is 4 years younger than Lake and now into his 3rd year as Head Coach. He is building a better resume than Lake , making the same money and he is younger. There are a ton of other examples.

Another comparison Matt Wells is about Jimmy Lake's age , racked up 6 years HC experience at Utah State and Tech just signed him for a 6 year deal that is probably in excess of $3.5 Million a year.

Point is I think it is a long shot that some P5 program will take a shot at a guy is in his mid-40's with zero HC experience. There are too many successful younger guys already racking up multiple years of Head Coaching experience both at the P5 level and lower.

Could see him taking over from Pete at some point or there is certainly nothing wrong with being a 7 figure coordinator.

He's still 41 or 42. And while UNT and Utah State aren't Power 5, they also aren't FCS, which was the basis of the previous discussion. I don't see him going FCS even if he eventually goes Group of Five.

The degree of butt hurt some of you have about Lake’s comments is pretty strange. Why do you care what he says? More importantly, what do you think opposing coaches think after beating down their rivals? Was the fact that he said (tweeted) his FU feelings publicly just too much to take?

Good God, what a bunch of snowflakes some of you are. Ooops, sorry. Snowflake probably wasn’t the best word choice given the weather last Friday. Get over it.
