Nice debut for Gueye

He missed (badly) 2 dunks and had one great block. I was also impressed with his passing. Clearly all the pundits were wrong as he started and played the 4. He didn't shoot well from 3 and that should be his emphasis going forward.

I recorded it to watch this morning. Paper had his stats as 10 pts, 5 boards, 3 assists and a block. Not bad. Agree he's a 4. Doesn't have the bulk for a 5. I'll say it until the cows come home, if he develops a reliable outside shot he'll be very very difficult to deal with.

His shooting mechanics have always looked fine. MacLean would gush about him when he had our games last year. Doesn’t mean he becomes a good shooter, but it is something that players can significantly improve. I think he’s one of those players.

Suddenly he now is motivated and coachable to play defense.

"His emphasis this summer is on “being a defensive threat, creating chaos, blocking shots … definitely being a great defender overall, not just on my man but help side too,” he said.

Why didn't he do this at GoCougs? Wasn't asked to, or chose not to?

Another strong outing. 4/6 FG 2/3 3pt, 10 pts, 8 boards, 1 assist, 2 blocks, good D. He looks real comfortable and like he belongs.

Area roundup article with Gueye the focal point. It's short, but some stats from the Spokesman ($):

"Gueye made his fourth consecutive start and delivered his fourth double-digit scoring performance for the Atlanta Hawks. He finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks Thursday in the Hawks’ 99-98 victory over Philadelphia at Cox Pavilion.

The 6-foot-11 Gueye produced 10, 10 and 11 points and five, six and six rebounds in three previous games. He’s also averaging 2.25 assists.

Gueye lifted his shooting percentages by draining 4 of 6 from the field, including 2 of 3 on 3-pointers, in just over 22 minutes of playing time against the 76ers. The native of Senegal has connected on 44.5% of field-goal attempts and 41.7% behind the 3-point arc."

If you extrapolate that out to 36 minutes he'd average around 16 ppg and nearly 10 boards. Not bad.

Saw that too. Colton was a good one. Apparently he's still going to be around as a part-timer.
