NIL Dollars

Good choice on Rigs for Pullman.

Hope he gets a good tutorial on driving in the snow.

There was a story about Valley Buick and Cougsfirst partnering to do a NIL Deal for Ward, that I read somewhere. That why I talked about it in another post. The story didn't mention a NIL Amount. Same with the tweet you posted, that didn't mention a amount.

I'd guess about 33k to 67k to 93k. The truck alone is probably about a 20k to 40k to 60k truck.

While I am neutral to this, don't like or dislike this, and altho it's going to take some getting used to, it's nice to see, I'm glad that WSU is getting on the NIL ball and doing what it has to do without cheating to be successful.

Credit to Chun, WSU leadership, and WSU Boosters, alumni, etc

Wonder if this will create animosity amongst current players who have diddly squat. Interesting times... we should just find car dealerships in the Eastern WA, N Idaho area and give all recruits and current players new cars as an incentive to come/stay here. Then if they play well we will give them a gas card. Lol.

Altho it's not the same, this is kinda, sorta, a little like playing time issue.

Players either have to understand, or needs to be pointed out to them, etc, that their ability, how hard they work, their success, etc, is going to determine whether they are a walk on, get a scholly, is a starter, back up, playing time, Nil Deal, things like a truck, etc, and that they can't, shouldn't be jealous, have a problem with another player, whose popularity, abilities, skills, hard work, success, etc, has earned them scholly's, being a starter, playing time, success, production, popularity, Nil Deals, NFL, trucks, etc.

Also the players need to understand that
while WSU, it's leaders, coaches, etc, can, could help arrange a NIL deal, it's businesses, and fans, boosters, etc, and Not WSU that gives them the NIL money, trucks, etc to players.

Also players need to understand, that NIL Deals, Trucks are not just given to popular, etc players. They need to understand that NIL contract players have to WORK, EARN their money, etc.

The players need to understand that Ward for example will be writing commentary, stories, posting on Brand X, and doing Valley Buick Commercials, and other actual work for his NIL money, truck, that he is earning from Valley Buick, Cougsfirst, Brand X, etc, that will take up his other time, etc, when he is not in the Classroom, studying, on the football field, etc.

And whose job is it to help the players understand those things and to help players to get along, etc, in the locker room, etc?

The Coaching Staff, Dickert, etc.

the guy who owns that dealership is a longtime WSU booster. they have been providing cars to the coaching staff for years.

Man, that's a nice ride. This is a step up from $500 or whatever for being in a social media post for Arby's.

I agree with you, I think the Oregon kid wants to get paid for example. These kids are seeing what others are getting and they are going to test the waters

That was my question too?

This might be a dumb question, but is this his ride to keep? or is this just his to drive when he is in Pullman?
Again, sane question I had… For those of you that hated the transfer portal already, after seeing this it may be possible that rooster turnover each year reaches 20% or so…
That ought to make you smile…. Something has to give eventually, can this continue for 5 years or more without oversight? I’m not sickened by the car, but something feels queasy about the school putting it together..

Then the kid needs to EARN. Too much ENTITLEMENT.

Ward HAS EARNED what he has gotten. He is NOT a Entitled, spoiled brat.

And they wrongly think it's free, given, easy money, etc.

And they don't get the WORK that Ward is going to have to do.

Ward is going to have to spend a lot of time, doing commercials, writing commentary, stories, post, etc, to get his NIL money, truck, etc.

It's just like how people think they want to be a movie star, or rock star, etc. They don't get how much time, work these people put in to make movies, etc.

The players have to, need to understand this, an or needs to be pointed out to them if necessary

And it's the coaches job to do that, make sure players get along.

And if a player doesn't get, understand, etc, and want to leave, leave, then good riddance to the Entitled, spoiled brats.

And if too many leave, if the coach can't get them to get along, then get a coach who can.

Even the Bama types can't get all players on the roster 25k to 2.5 mil in big time NIL money.

Even Bama types are gonna have some players getting more NIL money then other players.

Good question, a lease? Or a gift

It's probably part of his NIL deal, his, because he has to do things like doing commercials, etc, for Valley Buick, and has to write commentary, stories, post on Brand X for Brand X, Cougsfirst, etc.

Chun and WSU had zero involvement. I heard Chun wasn’t happy that we have to go here but understood. This is boosters through Cougs First stepping up to level the field. I heard WSU is concerned booster dollars may go to this cause instead of them.

They are morons. If they can’t figure out how to bring in $ then it’s time to clean house.

Good question. And what about insurance? A 20 year old kid driving a $50k new rig can't be cheap to insure!

They already lost my extra $1000 this year because they "temporarily suspended" the Portland Night with Cougar Football. I'll be damned if I drive to Seattle or TriCities so they can justify not bringing it back.

Chun already did. And if he's as much of a control freak as some would allege, CougsFirst acting like, you know, business people to close deals is going to put him into a seizure.

Also gonna be interesting to watch unfold when players start inking deals with competitors who paid big bucks for sponsorships. Cameron Ward doing commercials for Numerica Credit Union. Armani Marsh signing a deal with the Gonzaga Prep mafia at Washington Trust Bank.

Those will be fun phone calls for Chun to field. "Uh, yes, I know you paid millions of dollars for field naming rights Mr. Gesa CU CEO but... "

WSU, Chun, etc, probably not OFFICIALLY, SPECIFICALLY, involved, directly responsible for THIS SPECIFIC Nil deal, an or any future SPECIFIC Nil Deal, BUT probably not going to convince me, that Chun, WSU, etc, did NOT UNOFFICIALLY say something like "Hey (Insert Business Name(Valley Buick as example), boosters, alumni(Cougsfirst as example), guys, etc, you guys need to please step up to the plate, and offer Nil deals to football recruits, to level the playing field, or WSU will probably lose a semi lot of recruits to other, even Group of 5 mid major colleges, Mtn West, Big Sky, FCS, P5, Pac 12, colleges, and because of that will probably finish in last place in recruiting, and last place in record wise, except for the occasional exception."

It’s a valid concern unless everyone is going to reach deeper into their pockets. Personally I know I won’t be doing that.

Now if there were business that aren’t currently donating or donating small amounts but think they can get a ROI with an NIL deal it wouldn’t be such a big blow but I don’t see that in a market like Pullman. Spokane may have a few opportunities, especially for the right kid but nothing in comparison to what schools in bigger markets are going to bring in.

People aren't going to reach deeper in their pockets.

Need to spend any extra cash sourcing groceries on the black market. My local Safeway is sparse.

Weird, another foreseeable issue ($ going to NIL instead of athletic departments) becoming a thing.

Will write something similar to what I did the day NIL became a thing. Say you have $50k you want to use for athletics or, better yet, own a business and have a $50k expenditure you can characterize as a promotional expense.

You going to write that $50k check to the CAF and maybe get a handshake and your name in a program and asked to do it again next year, all so it can be a small blip in the black hole of the athletic department budget, likely going to paying for women's soccer jerseys, interest on debt, or whatever, or do you use that to bring in a coveted recruit at a position of need, directly impacting the sport you care about and getting some publicity and other benefits? I know my answer.

Went to Wal-Mart today, some shelves stocked and other shelves barely anything on 'em.

WSU athletes is was not involved in this NIL deal. The story on brand X matches what I’ve heard 3rd hand. It was Cougs First and some former players making calls and got peeps to step up. Cougs First will be propping up an infrastructure to support NIL deals. Too this point WSU is not involved. They have been passive. WSU tells the athletes here’s what you can do but they aren’t actively involved in finding or assisting in work opportunities for athletes from what has stated to me. And that’s why Cougs First scrambled to get Ward. It was allegedly Paul Sorensen who got the word from FCS sources that Ward wanted an NIL deal. That started the scrambling. 100% outside of WSU athletics.

There has to be some communication between staff and boosters to know who to offer. This is gonna get wild.

I believe the one shown is 75k
Are we sure it’s not a lease? Lots of people lease cars and if the market for used cars holds this is a $20K transaction not a $75K transaction over 2 years. The kid is living in Pullman and playing football he’s not putting that many miles on it even if he takes a couple trips back to Texas.

It’s a lease. He’s going to get whacked for taxes. Hope he’s putting some $$ aside.

Probably has financial advisors.
I doubt it. This isn’t the NFL yet. Bling gets a commitment but offering financial advice isn’t going to move the needle. And where NFL guys are making millions and it’s in the NFLs interest to educate its players about such things there’s no such payoff for colleges to do the same. They are more focused on keeping players eligible with academics and making sure they don’t do stupid stuff that costs them eligibility.
